My reference to being responsible was meant to be aimed at being responsible towards children in the car. YOU chose to take it out of context. Personally I think it shows a lack of responsibility to smoke in a closely confined area such as a car when there are children present. Responsible might also indicate some maturity. My premise is this: think of the children before you light up. That's all I care about.

to offer my 2 cents - my dad used to smoke in the vehicle with me when i was a kid and i hated it. i now smoke, and dad does not. i guess i could get revenge by smoking when we go somewhere now :P

he did acknowledge recently after becoming a non-smoker that he regrets doing that around me when i was a kid. even to this day my eyes water if i get cigarette smoke in them.

Are you going to quit?

quitters never win :D

someday. you that worried about my health? :P

This is what we need in the US. Australian cigarette packets are covered with these pictures..

Cigarette Packets

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Yes. The cigarette packets are almost completely covered with that..

Late in on the story but absolutely smoking shouldn't be allowed in cars with children under 18. They aren't allowed in restaurants that have smoking (where I live) so why should they be allowed in a car being exposed to secondhand smoke? I find people who smoke around their children despicable and it is absolutely disgusting to do that. I went to Cracker Barrel the other day and there was a woman outside with her child on her lap smoking away with this little baby breathing in her smoke and I seriously wanted to say something. Children already get enough rights taken away before they're born by being allowed to be aborted, why should they also be forced to be in a car with a parent who smokes when they too young to escape?

Edit: Not worth it, since there is no argument that can say it's ok to make kids be around smoke.

I have never smoked.

I am not an anti-smoking campaigner.

I didn't realise that second hand smoke was more dangerous for a non smoker than a smoker. (just knew it was dangerous)

Should it be criminal to smoke with children under 18 in a car? Probably not, but how anyone who smokes could think this was acceptable (knowing the health risks to the children) is beyond my understanding.

You cannot legislate for every eventuality. The best hope is to educate and change people's attitudes on what is acceptable. Smoking in confined spaces where children are exposed to the smoke is not acceptable behaviour i.m.o.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .
