I am confused, is background check similar to security check?

We received a letter that our case is pending security check,

while my friend, they received a response letter stating that their case is pending background check,

Hitting 7months waiting for NOA2, k1 under Tsc.

For my understanding, background check for petitioner means USCIS check some facts of life such as jobs, marriage, divorce, criminal records, credit history, etc. Meanwhile security check is more likely about regarding national security concern of the US.

If your waiting for your NOA2 then its a security check on the petitioner. Your fiancée will have to gather all her security police clearance, nbi, cenomar etc.. USCIS does all the background and security checks for the petitioner first before letting you proceed to process your paperwork thru NVC.

Most of times they do security check to petitioner. But sometimes in rare case specially if posing a threat to national security also involved beneficiary - you have your information on I-129F package as well-. But I do believe in your case USCIS run security check on your petitioner.

Oh forgot to ask, does/did your fiance serve in the military? Some military active duties hold security clearance for their position as my husband does have to do that. But when he filed I-129F for me we did not get any trouble with it. One more question, how did they tell you about the security check thing regarding your case? via email, call, or USCIS website?

If your waiting for your NOA2 then its a security check on the petitioner. Your fiancée will have to gather all her security police clearance, nbi, cenomar etc.. USCIS does all the background and security checks for the petitioner first before letting you proceed to process your paperwork

I asked my fiance about it. He said, he haven't got any trouble while he is working there. He worked there for 2years.

I hope, the completion of security check will be soon.

I think It's just taking longer for some reasons like having common name or something.

That simply means, 2 more months for us to wait. Maybe around 9months, NOA2 will arrive.
