I was wanting to know. I must save up over poverty level. I was told by a lawyer. And I must have a full time job. Well, I have a full time job. But I just wanted to know how much money do I need in my account. I was told it had to be $5,000. Is that true?

If you make over the poverty line in a steady job (it doesn't have to be full time, if you make enough at a part time job, good for you!), you don't need any assets/ money in the bank.

A lot of lawyers don't know anything lol and that's why we are here. Just to let you know I didn't even send any bank statements at all to my fiancée. I just sent in my 1040 form and state form and 1099's because im self employed and my business license and that's all. But its not a bad idea to send in at least 3-6 months from present to the past of statements cause I know it can be a lot of pages.

Highly suggest you read the I-864, I-864ez (to see if you qualify), the intructions for both forms and the I-864p. That should clear up most questions for you. We used the I-864ez as my husband met the qualifications.

Also, do not hire said lawyer. :)
