Got my passport with the visa stamp however just wanted to know if there will be any problem with how my name is mentioned on the visa stamp.

What exactly is 'Given name' as it looks like it means different things.

I dont have any middle name.

My passport has my complete name ELSY CHEN (first name and surname)as a Given Name however Surname BLANK.

Visa Stamp has FNU mentioned as my Given Name and Surname as ELSY CHEN.

1. For Domestic flights I never faced any problems. But while booking my international flight ticket now, can i still continue to book under my name as first name Elsy and surname Chen?

2. I checked the SSN required box so does this mean that when i land in US. I will receive my SSN automatically and will my name on SSN reflect the same as on VISA stamp? If so then how do i correct it?

Has anyone on VJ gone through similar situations.Kindly provide your inputs.Thank you so much.

I was tuck up in similar situation as yours. This was my post, hope the replies gives you the answer to your query:

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/447994-need-help-urgently/

I got my interview rescheduled though, and got my passports corrected, since managing things here with kids in school would have been tough.Find out from where to get your passports corrected once you are here.Other option could be,(though I am unaware if it is possible)you can get your passport corrected and get the visa restamped on it.It takes 10 to 14 days for reissue of passports in such cases. You can email the embassy and ask them if that is possible.Hope this helps.

Thank you.

I think i'll go with the first option.Dont want to apply for new passport now, from here and visa restamped because i think thats going to take a really long time another separation for god knows how long and we both are not ready for that. Hopefully things will work out fine when i reach there. Meanwhile appreciate your inputs.

Anyone else has gone through similar issues please share your experiences. Thank you.

Can I continue to book my tickets with my first name as Elsy and surname as Chen though visa stamp says FNU in given name and full name in the surname field. Appreciate your thoughts on it.

Always book according to your pp, the desk agent will verify it is you when issuing the ticket. My pp has my maiden name and GC is married name (even more annoying), they still have no issue inputting it in their system but just takes a little longer.

Elsy here.

Been busy trying to get adjusted here so couldnt udate it.

The Travel Agent in India booked it with surname as Chen and first name Elsy. I didnt have any issues while flying.

Got my SSN with the correct details mentioned Elsy Chen

However, the green card had the first name as FNU and then surname as Elsy Chen. So filled out the form I-90, Reason for Application in the form, chose the option 2d (My existing card has incorrect data because of Department of Homeland Security (DHS) error. (Attach your existing card with incorrect data along with this application)

Usually to replace your green card there is a fee involved however since this is an error from their side, have not paid any fees.

Received the appointment date for biometrics after few weeks, before doing the biometrics the officer asked few questions for the reason why the name has to be changed and then he asked for the birth certificate which has my correct name mentioned first name as Elsy and Surname Chen. Shortly afterwards, received the new green card with correct name mentioned. Luckily didnot face much problem.Hope this helps if anyone is in a similar situation.

You should also fix your passport. It sounds like it was incorrect to begin with.
