Amrita Hospital,Cochin

I just had my medicals for the immigrant visa and thought of sharing my experience for the benefit of others.

Did see many folks asking in the past for comments and opinions for the same and so here it goes.

Scheduling

The best option here is calling any of the following numbers and booking an appointment.

+91 4842801234, 4842851234, 4844001234

They will ask your name and number and will give a call back with confirmation.

They will usually let you pick a date of your choice since they have enough staff to handle these cases.

Medical test Day

The appointment was scheduled for 10AM.

The exact location is on the ground floor of the Dental College building which faces the Main car parking.

Once inside the building, you will never miss the hall(on left side-Room 1) that has been clearly mentioned as 'Visa Applications for UK,USA'

There will be many others too since its a place for comprehensive health checkups too.

STEP 1

At the front desk they will check for your name and appointment and give you a form (if your a new registration in hospital),fill it and give back along with.

  • original passport(for cross checking personal details)
  • passport copy
  • ONE 2 x 2 passport photograph(name written on backside)
  • copy of Interview letter

They will enter details into the computer and call you when ready.

STEP 2

Three forms will be given:

  1. Personal details sheet
  2. Form with following written in tabular outlay: Front desk,X ray,Blood Draw,Vision,Consultant examination 1 & 2.Each column must be signed by the respective departments.
  3. Form to be given to X ray technician

The clinics(Room 2) at the opposite side of the Front desk.

Pay Rs.1600 (doctors fee + new patient registration) at the reception counter.

Then visit the different departments(clearly marked in front of the respective rooms)

Make sure everything is signed by the technicians and go back to front desk(Room 1)

They will call out when the consultant is ready to see.

STEP 3

The consultant will ask you for the vaccination records and past medical history(asthma, diabetic, hypertension etc and present medications

If any vaccination required then a slip will be given.

The vaccination will have to be bought from the pharmacy and given to Reception counter(Room 2).

Vaccination will be administered shortly while they prepare the file work for the consulate.

STEP 4

The Medical Records will be handed over the same afternoon if you are the only individual applying or next day, if the immigration is for a family.

The reception desk will give three packages:

First package contains the bills and certification for any vaccination taken, the passport copy and IL copy given initially.

Second and Third are sealed envelopes containing

  • Medical Records with consultant opinion and test results(to be given at Consulate during interview)
  • X Ray film (to be given at POE)

DO NOT open the sealed envelopes

Make sure you bring passport, passport copy, vaccination schedule and copy,at least two 2 x 2 passport photos and Interview Letter.

Hope this helped.Happy Journey to ALL

Thanks for the comments.I tried to make it as descriptive and helpful as possible!

There are no Urine Tests in the Medicals.

They don't give you any open results or reports but you can ask the consulting doctor about the same.

Yes that's very true.I was just referring to my case where i dint have to do such tests.

The Consultant doctor does a physical examination and remnants of drug abuse such as puncture marks on skin ,make them doubtful and the most probably the applicant will have to undergo a Urine test for the same.

We don't really know for sure what the urine and blood are used for. We can only make educated guesses. Some say the urine is for pregnancy so the ladies get it but the men don't.

The doctor inspects the body for needle marks as well as scars that may indicate suicide attempts. At least that is what i heard. I also heard that he looks for sores that may indicate STD or some other illness that the other tests did not find. But again this is only hearsay.
