Vaccinations?

So I'm concerned about the vaccinations possibly delaying my entry into the US...can anyone tell me exactly which ones are needed? They provided a huge list but said that the doctor will deem which ones are necessary. I'm sure I have most of them, but when I was 14, I refused my meningitis vaccine so I need that one at the very least, I assume.

Its really not many for Canadians. And it is age specific. If its summertime you don't need flu shot, depending on your age MMR or proof of immunity,(born before 1956 are excluded) Chicken Pox is a verbal declaration. Tetanus/Diptheria is necessary for all. If you don't have your records you can go and have blood titers done to see immunity. I didn't need anything. The doctor who you are going to will probably ask you to send in vaccination records a week before....then no surprises. (I emailed mine)

Not sure in Canada where you are but you can call the dr or email your records before you medical. I'm not 100% but I believe Tetanus is a 10 year vaccination.

Not sure about other provinces, but in Alberta I just phoned and got them. I was also told you can go to a travel clinic and they can get your vaccination history and give you any missed ones.

If it's been 10 years since your shot, then you will need a booster.

When I had to get my vaccinations, Dr. Cheema's office said the booster had to be within the last 2 years. Not sure if that has changed yet but maybe check with the specific doctor's office that you use.

Most people on the K-1 need TDaP, MMR, Chicken Pox, and Flu during the winter months, most of the others are for children.

Im 31 only thing Dr Cheema wanted me to have was TDaP

I had MMR when i was young so he said no need, and Chicken Pox i Had

make sure its TDaP not TD, you need the Pertussis [aka Whooping Cough]

Some people in their early 30s may not be fully covered for mumps or measles. I had immunity testing done by my doctor in Alberta and found I was not covered from mumps so I had the MMR (since you can't get them separate) vaccine and Tdap again. I took proof of my vaccinations and immunity to the others like Hep B and chicken pox, but on my vaccination paperwork it says the Hep B is not age appropriate.

From our experience - TDaP has to be in the last 10 years (or booster) and Varicella is required if you did not have c-pox or can't remember. You can get all of the vaccinations before the medical (highly recommended!). Some vaccinations may or may not be available through the Dr office you are at. Def research that beforehand. We somehow overlooked Varicella and my husband had to get it. He had his medical through Dr Cheema - so he went to another facility that day and had them fax the results immediately so his file was complete.

Just get it all done before, have it all documented well and it will be easy breezy!

Yes, go to your regular doctor - all the shots you might need should be covered on canadian health care. They'll charge you extra for them if you get them at the immigration medical!

You can also get bloodwork done by your regular doc if you have misplaced any vaccination records. That's what I ended up doing.

I had the same issue as NLR except it was the measles aspect that wasn't covered anymore. To get a booster I went!
