Quebec birth certificate in English

Hello to all fellow Canadians eh!

I was wondering if any of you had useful information that could be helpful. I was born in the 'wonderful' province of Quebec, and my birth certificate is in french. As per my understanding it would be best if I had this document in English for future dealings with the American embassy, as well as in the future when living in the States. I have struggled to find the appropriate information in order to get this document in English. As always the Quebec government does not make anything easy when it comes to the English language.... but that is another story all together. Just wondering if anyone knows if I should order a short or long form or if that even makes a difference.

USCIS only accepts the long form version of a birth certificate (usually only a problem for British, Canadian, Australian, New Zealand and other Commonwealth countries).

If you're fluent in English and French you can translate a copy yourself.

État civil will provide a copy of the document in the same language as the original; had to have mine translated. The right "format" is described here: http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/fees/reciprocity-by-country.html . Also, what Hypnos said is true in most places, but myself (and others) were specifically asked for certified translations from a member of the Ordre des traducteurs, terminologues... ottiaq.org - by the consulate in Montreal; didn't cost much and I got a few extra copies at the same time/for the same price.

Also, from personal experience, regular service (and not express or urgent) was very fast when I ordered my birth certificate.

Definitely need the long form. I ordered my long form BC, in French - as they will only issue it in the language the birth was registered- , received it within 2 weeks. I got it translated at REV.com, 25 bucks I believe, had the translation within 48 hours via email. Printed a copy, brought my original French BC along with the translated copy to the interview (Montreal) and there were no issues.

Perfect, at least I can stop looking. I already have my long form birth certificate in French. I don't need it just yet, we are just starting our process but I'd rather be ready.

I just had my interview for K3 at US Consulate in Vancouver. English translation of my Quebec birth certificate was NOT required. He said they have seen enough of the Quebec birth certificates and can figure out the few words on the birth certificate (laughed it off). I submitted the french certificate with both my I-129 and I-130 applications and nowhere in the process did they ask for a translated copy. Years ago we also applied for our kid's registration of birth abroad...again it was not required. I did get a translation (from my niece) for future use (DMV and AOS).
