Hi, again. I'm reading unclear information on the Hepatitis B vaccination requirements.

The K-1 beneficiary (France) received packet 3 and 4 already. Packet 4 asked her to make the medical appointment. She made an appointment, after some scheduling difficulties, and received an email from the doctor with vaccination requirements. In the letter from the doctor, it says that for people under 18 years of age, Hep B is needed. But for those from 18 to 65, it says nothing about a Hep B vaccination. From what I understand, the Hep B vaccination is actually a series of 3 doses/shots, spaced months apart (after the first one, the next at 1 month, and the last at 6 months).

On this forum, however, people state the following conflicting information:

- 3 Hep B vaccinations are necessary prior to k-1 approval

- Only 1 Hep B vaccination is needed prior to k-1 approval, and the others can be obtained in the USA prior to AOS.

- No Hep B vaccination is needed prior to approval, but needed in USA for AOS.

How can the doctor's letter and embassy says nothing about a Hep B requirement for her age group, but only give three weeks notice for the doctor appointment and the embassy interview AND require the Hep B vaccinations? It doesn't make sense that the Hep B vaccination is a requirement at this stage. I am under the impression, however, that Hep B is required for the AOS stage. So it is prudent to begin the vaccination schedule now. Anyone know for certain about this? I just want to give the beneficiary some peace.

What is the correct information (beneficiary is in France)? Any advice?

Thanks.

This table lists the vaccinations that are required by age for visa applicants: http://www.cdc.gov/immigrantrefugeehealth/exams/ti/panel/vaccination-panel-technical-instructions.html#tbl1

If your fiancee is over 18 then she will not require the Hepatitis B vaccination.

In general, if there is a vaccination that requires multiple doses over an extended period of time, then the applicant only has to show that they've commenced the course for the purposes of the medical, as the panel physician can provide a blanket waiver due to "Insufficient time interval between doses". However, the series will still need to be completed by the beneficiary prior to AOS.

As a health care provider, I would recommend to get those shots. Hep B damages your liver and it is not reversible. When I did AOS,my doc said I need iPV because I didn't have it on my record. So I did one booster shot, even though I was way too old for IPV but immigration won't care. Only they care is you don't carry any diseases that can be transmitted to others in this country.

You can also do at health department, it is cheaper.

To answer your question, yes your finance with need that for AOS. So don't forget to bring old immunization records since she was a child and get it all updated.

Sorry I didn't clarify that my fiancee is over the age of 18. Thanks for your response, Darin&Josh.

So, will she still need it prior to AOS?

Since your fiancee is over 18, she won't need the Hep B vaccination for either the physician medical, nor for AOS.

As lil2be mentioned, there may be other reasons why she may consider getting it, such as for the health benefits/protection, and it may be available for free or at a lower cost in France than compared to the US. But given she isn't likely to be in France long enough to complete the series there, it probably isn't worth pursuing it at this point in time.

Since your fiance is over 18, she does not need the Hep B shot for immigration purposes (K1 or AOS) at all.

No, his fiancee does not need the Hep B shot as it is not age appropriate for her.

My plan with Candy is after all the AOS smoke clears, we are married and she is on my health insurance to take her to my doctor for whatever shots he thinks she needs for her health. He does the same with me.

Despite the nasty side effects, I am glad she got the MMR. Measles, mumps and rubella can be fatal in adults.
