Affidavit of Support co-sponsor has security clearance

I'm a USC now at the NVC level of processing for petitioning my stepdaughter.

We need a co-sponsor for the affidavit of support.

My potential co-sponsor has security clearance (he no longer works in the military but uses the clearance for his current job). He thinks that the AOS may affect his clearance. I cannot find any information online, that specifically states yes or no, just a lot of conjuring.

Does anyone know (personal experience greatly appreciated) if sponsoring an immigrant through an affidavit of support will affect their security clearance?

Thanks is advance!!!

Come renewal of clearances time there will be a question if he financially sponsored/supported an immigrant/foreigner. That's when he'll have to provide the info on AOS, the immigrant, relationship with the immigrant and the investigator would decide if that affects the clearance or not.

Given that it's a child in this case don't think it should be a problem provided he explains in high level of detail why he sponsored, relationship to you, copy of child's GC and when the AOS obligation ends.

Filed: Citizen (apr) Country: Nigeria
Timeline

Depending on the level of clearance he holds he has to report "foreign contact" This would come into play at top secret and above and most special access ones. Reporting signing a affidavit of support for a child shouldn't even make them blink. I know lots of people at work that are now USC's that sponsor relatives for immigration. No affect on their current clearances nor on upgrade to higher ones. The key is self report , do not let it come out of the walls during a review.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

Thanks for the feedback everyone!

We were thinking this too. The co-sponsor is my brother, so that would technically make the petitioning immigrant his 14 year old niece. I don't think it would cause him any problems- as long as, like you say above, the co-sponsor self-reports his sponsorship.
