Different Dates: actual wedding ceremony and marriage certificate

Hello friends! :) I need your help!

I have a question about filing i-130. This is regarding wedding pictures as secondary evidence.

Our wedding ceremony took place on Nov. 20, 2013, but it was officially registered on Nov. 29, 2013. We did the wedding ceremony earlier than Nov 29, 2013 because my husband's stepfather who was set to go back to the US (Nov 25) wanted to attend the wedding.

The wedding ceremony and reception took place in a restaurant in Baguio. We also signed the papers on Nov 20. But in our marriage cert, the pastor put the name of the church which is located in Pangasinan. And the date on it was Nov 29.

My questions are:

1. Should we tell the truth and attach a letter of explanation in our i-130 packet?

2. Should we rather follow what was written in the marriage certificate ( Nov. 29, 2013, Mt. Calvary) for our wedding pictures' description?

I think you should stick to what's written on your marriage certificate and nevermind that it was done ahead. It might create complications on your petition if you mention this and that, making the process longer, which we don't want to happen.

You never need to ask if you should tell the truth. If your marriage was legally registered on Nov. 29, then that's the date of your marriage. There is no date of wedding ceremony question on any form. You can add any explanation you wish, but ALWAYS tell the truth.

Thanks friends. Okay my husband wants us to put Nov. 20, 2013... I explained to him that we were legally married on Nov 29. Unfortunately, he insists on nov. 20.

What I was actually asking is about the date Im putting on the wedding photos. Another question would be, should I really have to put date and place on our wedding photos when it's already in our i-130 form?

Is there some part of the word "truth" you and your husband are having difficulty understanding and complying with? If so, expect a big disappointment on interview day, as "truth" is an absolute requirement on all forms and for all interview questions.

I understand your point. Thank you. No I don't think we are having difficulty understanding the word truth, but you see... our situation is a little bit confusing. That's why I'm asking the opinions of members. :) Anyways, thank you sir.

I wasn't confused in the least by your story. The "truth" was quite clear to me, as I expect is was to both of you. Your confusion was clearly about whether or not to "tell the truth", and you said so in exactly those words by asking if you should tell the truth. The answer is always going to be yes. Life and immigration are so much simpler when that is your guiding principle.

Actually my husband wants to put Nov. 20. So maybe, I'm the only one who's confused.

Yes you're probably right. I was just afraid it would do complications in our papers. And all I want is to be with my husband sooner.

You will probably always consider your wedding day to be the day you were married. That's understandable and a private, personal matter. The immigration process requires that "marriage date" be what the government with which the marriage is registered, considers to be the day you were legally and lawfully married. I would carefully read your NSO marriage certificate to see what date it shows as the date of the marriage. Use that date an all forms. Date photos the day they were taken. If something requires additional explanation, provide the explanation.

A proper NSO marriage certificate has a section in the middle that starts with the words, "Place of Marriage" In that section, should be a date, place and usually a time. That is the date you were legally and lawfully married.
