I am currently active duty stationed in Belgium, and have been continuously serving in Europe in various countries since 1998. In 2004, I married a British national, and we have since lived in Germany and now Belgium. Three years ago I was told that I couldn't start my husband's green card process until we had proof of intent to live in the United States. Well, it's 2014 and my proof has arrived in the form of retirement orders, and we are heading to the US in six months time. I am scared. I have spoken to several offices (base legal, embassy in Brussels, my commander's support staff) and each offices tell me a completely different story as to how to get his visa process started. Oh and I also spoke with someone from the USCIS military helpline who didn't know how I go about asking for expedited processing of the paperwork and recommended that we just move to the states and he then try to stay. This really scares me because this was the military helpline, and they didn't know how to help me.

Is there anyone out there who could explain to this crusty 20-year veteran the steps I need to take to start my husband's visa process and how to get that process expedited?

Thank you for any help you can give me :)

what intent to stay?

In my view it is simple process like any other married people

you are us citizen. file i130 for him.

it will be about one year before you comes here.

Read around in this forum and you will find it so many helpfull info,.

if he already has a travel visa he can come here as it is legal. then it might be some other process like adjustment of status. But I think you have to file I130.

And by the way THANK you for your service.

There is no DCF in Belgium. To be able to file DCF the country must be on this list: http://www.uscis.gov/about-us/find-uscis-office/international-immigration-offices

OP, you should file an I-130 in the usual way and then attempt a military expedite once you have the receipts.
