Hello everyone. Here's our situation. I had my medical last January 15, 2014 and I undergone sputum test for 2 months. I got my complete medical result 24th of March. Then had my interview on April 7. I was given a 221g because of a lacking documents. Manila embassy got them April 21. Our status on ceac visa tracker went from Administrative Processing to READY. So just wondering if how long it will be before it says ISSUED. My medical will expire next month, the 10th of June. Is this means that my k1 visa validity expires as well? Any response would be much appreciated!

If you have not been approved yet there is no K-1 visa will be issued which means there is no conversation about the expiration of K-1 visa as well.

Edit: the medical expiration is nothing to do with the validity of K-1 visa . Some people here said the expiration of K-1 visa is tied up to medical's date which is not entirely true. Mine is different. If it happens expired before they issued the visa, you have to do your medical again in order to fulfill K-1 visa requirement.

Keep a close eye on this as you may have very limited time to enter the USA. And YES the visa validity is tied to the date of the medical.

After the embassy receives the requested documents it can take a couple weeks for them to complete the processing.

The validity date of the visa is printed on it, take note of that date when you receive your passport back, make sure to enter the USA before that expiration date.

Not sure about other countries but for the Philippines the K-1 visa validity IS tied to the date of the medical. You read the embassy website it states the visa is valid UP TO six months from issuance... with exception. It is common knowledge here in the Philippines (and verified many times) that the validity date IS tied to the date of the medical.

  • Validity of visas

Generally, an immigrant visa is valid for six (6) months from the date of issuance. The validity of a visa, however, may also be limited because of medical restrictions or other reasons. If an applicant knows that departure will not be possible within this period, he or she should request to have the interview moved to a later date. The Embassy does not extend the validity of an issued visa. However, an expired visa may be replaced if the applicant is able to demonstrate that his/her inability to use the visa was due to circumstances beyond his/her control. If an applicant is determined to be eligible for a replacement visa, he/she will be asked to update his record and will be charged the applicable consular fees.

Administrative processing is by far the worst abuse of applicants by the State Department. It is on par with the medeival Star Chamber.

Sputum may not be abuse #2, but it certainly makes the top 10.

Okay, I see. My visa valid up to six months from the date of issuance. Not from my medical.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH SIR for this info and for the advice. During my interview, the consul said something about this expiration stuff but Im not sure if I understood it right. That's why I made this query here. She said that we need to submit our lacking documents as soon as possible because my visa and medical will expire soon. And she said also it takes normally 2 weeks to process. That 2 weeks will end this friday so hopefully we hear good news next week. I will look into my visa for the expiration date once I get it. Thank you again!
