Okay, had our infopass today, they stamped my son's passport for 6 months, and only gave me 60 days on mine because my passport expires July 14. So, I need to renew my passport and go get the new one stamped. (gonna be hard when I'm not allowed to surrender the passport because I need the stamp with me at all times, but I can't renew the passport without surrendering the old one... hahaha, they don't make it easy)

But info for why they're all taking so long. The officer I spoke to there, told me that they've all been given N400 as priority, and to complete all of those first, and there's a massive backlog. She told me we probably won't be called in for an interview any sooner than 4-5 months from now. They did actually only get my file at the end of December, even though I was told in August it was being sent to them. They still don't have my son's file. I did ask if it would be worth anything at all to see an ombudsman at all to speed things up, and was told I could, but it likely won't change anything on the timeline as their mandate to clear the N400s is prioritized over everything else. (maybe I need to put my app in for that then now rather than after??)

So I'll be calling one of the Canadian embassies here to see if I can somehow apply for a new passport and not surrender the old one until after. I do know I can request the old one back... but I really need to have that stamp with me at all times.

edit: I also did NOT need passport photos, even though my passport is in a different last name. Not a prob though, I need them for the renewal anyway.

Hi Stuart and Thea,

did you get a RFE?

No, we've been randomly selected for an interview.

We were also randomly selected for the interview after marrying. :)

Is there a way to tell if ones are randomly selected for interview.

The letter (sent by snail mail) we received for our service request some months ago has letter head from the local office, does that mean we are awaiting an interview as well???

Basically we sent in our I-751 nearly a year ago, and hear back basically nothing after the receipt letter.

My letter from them told me I was randomly selected, you could call and ask about your situation though! Good luck!

Hi guys, just wanted to let you know that after 2 service requests, info pass and contacting a senator, I received an interview notice for June 26th.

It doesn't say "Randomly selected" just "please, appear with your spouse .... blah blah blah"

Cherry how did your notice look?

Timeline

Does this look odd to anyone...?

Sent docs in April - 6 month later got RFE

Sent RFE back in January - 6 months later interview is scheduled

Six months after January would be July or June at best. Well..seems like the RFE did not satisfy them so they scheduled an interview. This does not really mean much as long you go with everything you have to the interview. Your long wait will then be over.

  • 1 month later...

Just wanted to update you all that it has been 19 days since our interview and no news from USCIS.

What should I do? Any suggestions? Is this normal?

My attorney advised to do an info pass if I don't hear anything in 30 days.

Evashallini..this is normal It is basically two weeks which is nothing. You should hear from them soon. Actually make an info pass now and set if for after 30 days. You can cancel it if the approval gets to you before that day. Good luck
