RFE received last month, no new information

Hi there, we filed our I-130 in October 2014. We got an RFE because of a typo on a translated document at the end of March 2014. We sent in the reply with the re-translated document a day after using overnight delivery. They received it on March 28th.

Now it's April 23rd, there hasn't been any sort of contact or any update on the website.

Any idea how long we're looking at here? How long does an RFE usually take?

A ballpark guess or any advice would be greatly appreciated.

From my experience you are overdue not only for a website update but for a decision. I would call the 800 number and verify they have logged in your response at the very least. That your package was delivered, does not mean your response reached the desk where your file resides.

How would you recommend I get information out of them when I call?

Every time I've called them, they simply repeat what I can read for myself online.

I've heard people say that I should demand Tier 2, but our email says "wait 60 days" and it hasn't been 30 yet. I guess I'm at a loss as to what type of phrasing / questions I should be using when I call the 800 number.

Took us about 15 days for our RFE in 2012. My husband took 1 month to reply RFE. Isn't he sweet

Keep calling until you get a helpful/ knowledgeable person or get connected to a supervisor.

Maybe try different times of the day to call?

My husband called them once, and they were helpful.

We had a similar experience with the USCIS staff just basically reading to us the same statement that we could read online. It's very frustrating. This whole process is ridiculously slow and it will test you in many ways. I would ask to speak to higher level supervisor if it's possible. I would also do your best to be friendly to whoever you get on the line. They are just some person sitting at a desk reading a computer screen and sadly they don't care about how long you've been waiting and nothing you or I say to them will pick up the pace. I have found that getting into a friendly conversation with them will get them to share what they know about the process and they can give you hints about time frames and what they are seeing in general with other cases. Getting upset with them will only cause them to give you the standard answers like....please wait 30 or 60 days to process. In our case, it took 5 months from the time we applied to the USCIS to get the approval and then we just got shifted over to the NVC which is yet another case of 30 day wait times for each step to happen. I'm sorry to tell you...but I hope you have a year to let this process play out. We applied to the USCIS with our 130 in April 2013. It's now May2014 and we are still waiting for the NVC to give us our interview date at the Tokyo Embassy. The estimate is around mid June so start to finish is about 1 year and 2 months.

Just to put an update here for future people.

We received an approval (edit: by email) for the I-130 on May 3rd, so it took just over a month after they received our RFE submission before they worked on it, it seems.
