"the notorious woman"?

This is why right-wing media has turned into such a joke.

This is exactly what stuck out to me and exactly where I stopped reading.

Do you not own a dictionary? "Notorious" = "famous or well known". You object to her being described as "well known"?

i think you mean, famous or unfavorably well known.

no·to·ri·ous [noh-tawr-ee-uhthinsp.pngthinsp.pngs, -tohr-, nuh-] Show IPA
adjective
1.
widely and unfavorably known: a notorious gambler. Synonyms: infamous, egregious, outrageous, arrant, flagrant, disreputable.
2.
publicly or generally known, as for a particular trait: a newspaper that is notorious for its sensationalism.Synonyms: notable, renowned, celebrated, prominent, conspicuous, famous, widely known.

And no, I don't "own a dictionary" I also don't "own" any Encyclopedia Britannica collections.......... or a land line.............or a horse.

There is such a thing as "in the parlance of our time" and when people say notorious, they typically mean in reference to definition #1 as opposed to definition #2. But if you want to feel like you "got me" then be my guest.

Condi Rice would be a much more inspiring speaker who stands tall in the face of liberal whites who object at seeing a successful black woman who also happens to be a conservative.

Oh, snap! You are more likely to find such dissidence amongst the TB's who can't stand Michelle Obama for being black and educated. Still, all these years later and they are bothered by a black couple in the White House...

Condoleezza Rice urges Republican party to be more inclusive

(Reuters) - Former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on Saturday called on the Republican Party to become more inclusive on issues like immigration.

"We have a responsibility to those who do not yet have the liberties and the rights that we enjoy," Rice told a cheering crowd at the annual gathering of California Republicans in the San Francisco suburb of Burlingame. "We cannot abandon them ... We were once them."

She did not offer a specific policy idea.

The speech by Rice, who was secretary of state under President George W. Bush, was the highlight of the second day of the three-day convention, which has set out to rebuild the party in a state where Democrats control both houses of the legislature and every statewide elected office.

U.S. Representative Pete Sessions of Texas, who recently won a primary battle against a challenger from the populist Tea Party movement, also talked about broadening the Republican Party by joining in a fight with the Tea Party against Democrats and liberals.

"The opportunities that lie for Republicans are enormous this year with a team that will be together," Sessions said. "It's easier to get things done in a majority."

Jim Brulte, California's former and long-serving state senate leader who has been charged with reviving the party in the state, said in a statement he was aiming to push the party "outside of its comfort zone."

In her speech, Rice echoed the convention theme of "rebuild, renew and reclaim." Rice included individual freedom, private sector-led growth and equal access to quality education as key themes for Republicans to focus on in California and elsewhere.

Convention attendees said they were behind the idea of Republicans reaching out to groups that have traditionally felt alienated by the party, particularly Latino and Asian immigrants.

"I really think that this country is going to be turned around with conservatives and new immigrants," said Susan Mason, of Sacramento, a Tea Party Republican. "We've got to get to them first."

She shares the Obama Policy- If they make it here, they are one of us.

Borders are just "constructs" from a bygone era.

FLOTUS has rescheduled her visit!

First lady Michelle Obama is scrapping her plans to deliver a graduation speech for high school seniors in Topeka, Kan., after hundreds signed a petition in protest.

Instead of delivering a graduation speech, Obama will speak before the school district the day before graduation, and will deliver remarks at a "Senior Recognition Day."

More than 1,750 people had signed a petition protesting the first lady's appearance at the graduation ceremony, angered that security concerns would limit the number of friends and family who could attend.

According to the Topeka Capital-Journal, students would have only been allotted six tickets apiece had the first lady maintained her original plans.

In a statement to The Hill, the first lady's communications director said Obama wanted to accommodate all who hoped to attend the graduation ceremony.

"Once we learned about the concerns of some students, we were eager to find a solution that enabled all of the students and their families to celebrate the special day," she told the wire service.

The first lady's address is meant to commemorate the anniversary of the landmark Brown v. Board of Education desegregation ruling.

"The remarks will celebrate the achievements of the graduating class of high school seniors in Topeka, home of the landmark U.S. Supreme Court case, Brown v. Board of Education, which is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year," the White House said in a statement.

I guess the ungrateful little urchins do not know who she is. The children just thought their lunches sucked, wait until she hands out the nutrition guidelines and menus for next year.

When busting out that dictionary to look up that word you might realise that it tends to have a negative connotation.

Famous is a neutral word. Notorious is not.

Why do you think the first lady is 'notorious' rather than simply famous.

And what is 'notorious woman' supposed to mean? Are women notorious? Blackbeard was a notorious pirate, why is Mrs Obama a 'notorious woman'?

Maybe you should worry more about vetting the topics raised for discussion with some reasonable anticipation of what sort of conversation the OP material is going to encourage.

As it stands, it seems to be fine to start am article on a bigoted premise so long as everyone is polite about it.

You (VJ moderation) are ridiculous.

Maybe a copy of the Bill of Rights and the US Constitution should be included with every Welcome to the USA letter for new immigrants. Maybe then immigrants/guests would understand that we had these rights long before they arrived to ridicule our laws and customs.
