lol it's funny that the majority of votes are 'smarter than average'

LOL that was my prediction when I made this poll.

so does that make that group 'average'? which would then invalidate the opinions of everyone in that group?

The average VJ member thinks they are smarter than average. :)

Clearly, the only logical conclusion is that people involved in family-based immigration are geniuses! Uh...right? :P

There's that adage:

A person is smart. People are stupid

Even if you thought you were more intelligent than the average bear, it would take a fairly large portion of ego to actually brag about it to others ;)

Well, I don't believe people are "smarter than others" except in certain ways. I might be better at math than someone else (which in itself is unlikely), but I'm terrible at spatial stuff like you know, imagining what the broken box would look like assembled, and pretty much anyone is better at me at physical intelligence.

However, I very much believe in stupid people. Not stupider than anyone else--just stupid.

Life is hard for very smart people because average people resent us a lot, and there are more of them than there are of us. :P

I understand completely :P

I am usually either exceptionally good at something and take to it immediately, or exceptionally bad at it and never really learn it. I'm rarely just 'okay' at something. I don't know if that makes me smarter or dumber than average, but I DO think that areas in which I seem to do very well are important.

Also, I think there are a lot of different types of "intelligence" and that a person's values, interests, judgments and choices, etc are just as important (if not more important) in determining how smart someone is than pure reasoning ability, and I do think I make very good decisions.

I put myself as 'smarter than average'. I've had IQ tests done and was always above average. I also graduated above average in highschool and college. One thing I would say to the fact most people think they are above average is this: look at the dynamic you're talking about. Most people here are those doing the entire visa process themselves, or with minimal help from a lawyer, with the good sense to do some good research on things (or at least troll the off-topic forum for poops and giggles). I don't think the lower portion of the population would even know how to use this site. ... for example: my fiance's sister thinks that each time a pop up says 'You have won!' that she's actually won something. She once trashed an entire computer with viruses from downloading stuff popups said to... in less than an hour.

The older I get, the more I realize how much I have to learn.

I'll go a step further about myself because the older I get, the more I realize how ignorant I really am... Unfortunately the more I learn and grow, I exponentially become that much the more ignorant. It's a losing battle. I'll never catch up, but I’ll keep trying!!! Cheers!!!

I'm not nearly as smart as I used to be, this getting old stuff really sucks

No sh!t...I can relate. But I would prefer to say that my hard drive is full of many years of life's experiences...and my brain is in dire need of being defragged...not to mention a scan disk to fix errors. A system restore to an earlier time would also be beneficial. ;)

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

US Congresswoman Barbara Jordan (D-TX)

Testimony to the House Immigration Subcommittee, February 24, 1995
