Administrative Processing pending for 17 months

My father-in-law case is still pending administrative processing and it has been 17 months since his interview. Is there anything we can do?

No there is nothing you can do except ask for status updates if your AP ha completed yet.

My father-in-law is from Iran. He was in the military his entire career, specifically, the Iranian Army. He was a General in the Iranian Army. He retired from the Iranian Army almost 20 years ago.

Both my father-in-law and mother-in-law applied for immigrant visa. My mother-in-law did not have any administrative processing so she has received her green card and she has been to the U.S. twice already. In 2010, both my mother-in-law and father-in-law applied for tourist visa and my father-in-law administrative processing was complete in 10 weeks. They both came to the U.S. with a tourist visa and went back to Iran after 2 months. They both have clear and easy cases, no problems, no legal issues, etc. I don't understand why it is taking so long for my father-in-law administrative processing to be complete. His interview was in December 2013. Everytime I ask Ankara Consulate they say to just keep checking the website. Approximately a few months ago Ankara contacted him and requested he send them a table with all of the years he was in the Iranian Army, his rank, his responsibility, and the number of soldiers that reported to him. This table was completed and sent to Ankara Consulate. When we ask if they need any more information they say No.

That is odd he got a Tourist Visa before. Why are they applying 2 years later. Usually most (not all) get a 10 year Visa. There's must been a 2 year entry one correct?

Maybe they are just doing deeper digs. Alot has happened in 2 years there and here and well its for the protection of the US.

For some reason they do not offer Iranians a 10 year visa or even a 2 year visa. They don't offer Iranians multiple entry visas. I don't know why. My in-laws received a 6-month 1 time entry tourist visa in 2010. They stayed in the U.S. for 2 months and went back to Iran. Now, they have applied for a non-immigrant visa. My mother-in-law received her visa and has her green card, but my poor father-in-law is still waiting (17 months since his interview) for his administrative processing to be complete. It took them only 10 weeks to complete his administrative processing when he applied and received a tourist visa in 2010.

Okay I am confused what Non-immigrate Visa your MIL get and got a green card? What exactly are they applying for and who is petitioning for them?

And one thing also you have to realize applying for a tourist Visa is totally different than someone waiting to immigrate. The scrutiny is deeper and more through.

Probably because Iran has been designated a State Sponsor of Terrorism by the US State Department. That same designation is probably the same reason your FIL's case has been in AP for as long as it has.
