Hello everyone! I have a couple of questions about filling out form I-130.

My wife is Spanish, and has two last names and no middle name.

Her first last name is "Núñez" and second last name is "Ruiz de Castroviejo". This does not all fit in the space provided, so I was wondering how to go about it. Could I just put her first last name, and omit the second one? Also should I write it as "Nunez" and then spell it correctly in block 20 where it says "If your relative's native alphabet is other than Roman letters..."?

As a middle name should I just leave it blank, "None", "N/A", "-"?

In block 22 it asks "Complete the information below if your relative is in the United States and will apply for adjustment of status". That is not the case as she will be in Spain, and apply for a visa in the consulate in Madrid. Should I put this here? Or leave it blank?

Thanks for all the help!

Does your wife will change her name or will she keep her maiden name?

If she wants to change her name (and use your last name), she needs to fill the forms with her new name (she can chose how she wants her new name, even deleting part of her current name). Then, on the question 7. "other names used", she writes her name "First_Name Núñez Ruiz de Castroviejo". Her name IS roman letters, so, put N/A on the 20.

In block 22, leave blank the first part, but fill on the right side with the city and country where is the embassy in Spain.

Please, feel free to ask if any other doubt come up.

Best wishes

So she can basically choose what she wants as a last name? We'd definitely like to have all her US paper work (SS card, green card, etc.) just show her first last name, if that is possible.

Also, in regards with her middle name that she does not have, should I just leave it blank?

Thanks!

Whatever she wants her name to be in the USA, the most cost effective way to do it, is to change her passport to that name. She can use your married last name or a combination of her last name and yours.

She can definitely chose her last name. About the middle name, just leave that block blank, if she doesn't want to have a middle name. And, if her passport is still on her maiden name, but the green card will have a different name, she can still travel showing the marriage certificate to prove the change. But, she can change her name in her passport as well (need to check the rules and how to do it on her home country).

You'd have to pay $450 to change the green card after the fact. Generally more expensive than changing a passport, but some countries have regulations on when you can change things.

For no middle name enter ----. If not allowed on the form, leave blank and use a pen to insert ---- or just a line.

If using a married name that is not the same name as in the current passport, she'll need a new passport issued in the married name, at the NVC stage. Plenty of time to get that done.
