Hi every one! I just got married last month gladly with my fiancée. I am from Philippines and was approved to come visit my fiancée in US as K1 visa. So after getting married we filed my I-485 and I-131 and EAD. Now our problem is my Philippine passport will expire this October 2014. And we're clueless if I need to renew it in my country? We'll we are still looking on what the next move should we do.

Hope to hear from anyone who have an idea on this. Will totally appreciate it . Thank you so much

Topic has been moved from Immigration News forum to the Philippines regional forum as a more appropriate location for this question.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

We are going through the same thing now. We are changing my Wife's passport to her married name. Since there is an outreach in North Carolina toward the middle of the month we decided to go ahead and do a ROM (report of marriage) and name change on the passport. This saves a trip to the Embassy as that is the closes and serves our area.

Find out where and what consular section serves your area: http://www.philippineembassy-usa.org/index.php?page=consulate-finder-dc

You will find all the instructions there for changing your passport, reporting a marriage and births etc.

You renew your passport at the Philippine consulate in L.A. The consulate does outreach programs in different cities, so if they have an outreach event in your area you don't need to travel to L.A.

You also need to do the Report of Marriage at the consulate. we did both at the same time.

Thanks every one! It's really nice hearing from all of you. Will start working on my passport. I'm happy being with my fiancée and now my husband still trying to adjust with the environment but yeah it is kind a COLD here. Lol

Do your Report of Marriage along with the passport renewal, that way your new passport will be in your married name.

The Philippines Consulate Los Angeles will have an outreach event in National City on April 26-27.

You can report your marriage and renew / amend your passport there.

I second Hank's advice on the report of marriage form so you can update your name as well.

I am very happy for you that you started your new life. Don't worry about the cold; it is a function of what you are used to. I live in New York, and when I was in Manila I found it to be hotter than hell.

Hi follow up question did you guys applied for dual citizenship or we as Filipinos are required to do that?

You can not apply for dual citizenship until you are a citizen of another country first ;) - that is a few years away yet.

You are not required to be a dual citizen, that is a personal choice.

I live in New York and we renewed my husband's passport in July 2014 unfortunately we did not know that it would take about 8-10 weeks for us to get his passport back since the Philippine Consulate here told us that they send your passport to Manila to be processed :( Hope it is different from where you live.
