We have been approved, the K1 is in my passport.

I intend to emigrate and marry in the summer.

Before this though, I would like to take a short holiday in the US (under the visa waver program).

So, I would like to travel to the US but not use the K1 that is already in my passport.

I've only found one thread about this online but no reference to rules or personal experiences.

So! I would like to ask you all 2 things:

1 - Does anyone know of any policies about this that they could link to or reference?

or 2 - Has anyone actually done this?

Thank you for reading!!

2. - Yes but the only people I've read about are Canadians, the rest seem to be forced to activate the K1

1. Have you tried calling the Port of Entry to inquire?

Good luck

It will depend on the CBP when you arrive at the POE, his/her decision being final; so don't count on being able to come in under VWP.

It's probably very unlikely that you will be able to do that.

You could try it but fly via Ireland so that you go through immigration there and if you are not allowed to use the VWP you could choose to simply not fly. Then you are just out of the cost of the flight and can get home relatively easily.

Well, the London embassy did actually get back to me:

"As your K-1 visa has been issued, you may only travel to the United States using this visa. On entry you will be required to marry within 90 days. You cannot travel visa free under the Visa Waiver Program. "

I wonder if this should be added somewhere in the main guides? There wasn't much solid stuff on it out there, just a few opinions. Well, hope this helps anyone in the same situation! Got to say, I'm actually quite chuffed about it, I'm more than happy to move over a few months quicker than planned! :)

Aint'goona happen. The K-1 will be used. You have no choice.

K-1 trumps all other visas. Email your Embassy and ask about it.

or 2 - Has anyone actually done this?

Never have I read about this.

Thank you for reading!!
