I-134 Question 7

I'm posting this here because I always have quicker responses than in the Embassy forum...

This is regarding the I-134 form about my property-

I bought a new car in the end of 2005. Should I put down the original cost of the car or do I have to find what it would be worth now?

I'm still paying it off - does that affect what amount I should state?

Also, this form asks how much money we have in our savings account. I requested a letter from my bank showing my average balance for the past year. Do I put down that amount (and use this letter as verification) or should I write how much I have as of today?

Thanks so much!

IF you meet the requirement of 125% of poverty level then no other assets are required .If you need car as an asset then put down how much is worth after you would pay off the car today. The net value after you pay off all that owe on the car. As far as the bank statement. A letter from the bank . The date the account was opened,Total amount that was deposited over the last year, and what the balance is today. Checking account and saving account., If you need an asset your IRA could be used if you have one. As I said if you are over 125% poverty level then that is all you need on the I-134. A letter from your place of employment on company letterhead . When you started work, present wages and if you will be employed during the future, that is also good to have to prove you can support your fiance.

If you need to use assets to prove ability to support your fiancee, then use the current bank balance as the amount of cash available. If you need additional assets and your car is one of them, then the fair market value should be shown. You can find that at kbb.com , which is Kelly Blue Book.

Thanks you guys.

I don't need my car in addition to my salary because I make more than enough. I read a post recently where someone mentioned the car as an asset (I never thought of it as property) and thought since it's mine I can add it.

I never received the letter from my bank so I will include some on-line bank statements, my current savings account balance, paystubs, and a letter from my boss. I have a contract from the beginning of the school year (I'm a teacher) but I figured it wouldn't hurt to have an updated letter (with current paystubs).

Sound ok?

My fiancee is a retiree but the pension he's getting is more than enough to support a household of 6. He's living alone and I'm the only person he supports. He got some properties, life insurance and bonds but he's not comfortable declaring it in Affidavit of Support for our later use. Is it really ok if we don't include those things and stick on his retirement pay? We have supporting documents for everything but we're thinking if we can just declare how much he's receiving monthly without including his properties.

Yes, his retirement pay is more than 125%. So it's ok not to declare all his properties, huh? :D
