So actual news stories can't be published if they're about sex?

I saw that thread - that's just strange. It's as if they've got to find new and obscure ways to change people's posting habits. It does not and absolutely will not work.

Why do it? What's the point?

I assume this is about that whole 'family friendly' thing. I'm cool with that but I'd like a clarification. Are we saying threads can't mention sexual events anymore, even if they're in the news?

If this was the late 1990s (the Clinton presidency), would we be allowed to post about the cigar and the stained dress?

Well it's like this - the government has tried to do similar things and because they can't define it adequately you have an insane situation where film violence is less frowned upon than the sight of bush, boobs and #######.

I'd say that issue is more about people posting content that reflects their extremist views - racism, misogyny, homophobia, ultranationalism (aka borderline nazism) and the like. Of course, this requires someone to be knowledgeable enough to recognise that these are extreme views and not 'mainstream'. Because the moderation team probably doesn't have time to do this - you end up with silly, arbitrary (and unenforceable) rules.

The EPA use to tell us, we can't tell you if it's going to be in compliance or not, just do it and we will let you know

I have sad it before, I think the problem with this forum is you got a nightclub in the middle of a family themed amusement park. This forum and the rest of VJ are just two different animals and no way you can apply the same exact standards to each. We are all generally happy with each other in here, but if Joe Blow from some other part of the world stumbles in this forum, and takes something I say to, someone that everyone else in here knows I am joking,, he may get offended and not come back and tell all his buddies, VJ hates the great god XYZ or condones something he finds highly offensive.. That is bad for biz.

The other hand is this is a transient site. This forum holds a lot of us transients and generates a fair amount of traffic. Joe Blow is going to be gone after his Visa is approved but Marvin and I are probably still going to be generating post after post of idiotic 100th times repeated race arguments a year from now.

Problem two is- every mod is different, and when they censor something, they immediately remove it and i we are all left wondering what was the offending comment or even if we said it. Heck sometimes when they take action, I can't remember what it was. If they left stuff for a bit as an example we might could get a feel for what is ok and not. What is ok today might not be ok tomorrow.

third--Make this forum 18 and over and put a warning on it. Still Mod it and don't let us get nasty or pornographic etc, just stops people from stumbling in here without understanding, all our opinions are ours only.

I don't think we should be able to discuss Visa regulations about proxy marriage and subsequent consummation of the marriage, because that implies that is not "family friendly."

I know I am greatly offended by seeing things that would get a PG rating on a movie, are shown on daytime broadcast television, and appear on billboards.

AOS for my husband

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
