So on Jan 30, 2014 our I-130 petition was received and sent to the Nebraska Service Center for processing. My husband is Egyptian and works in Senegal. I came here to Senegal to get married and be with him until he is able to come back with me to the US. I came here in Nov 2013 and there were some bureaucratic delays that made us not able to get legally married until December and delayed me filing the I-130. So we are just waiting for it to be processed now. My question is this: HOW LONG NOW???? I have two kids in the states who are staying with their aunt and I miss them terribly. Is this going to take more than a couple of months? Should I be going back to get them and bring them here to Senegal? It's safe and very comfortable living here and I could home school them. I don't want to go through the expense of going back to get them if it will only be a couple more months, but I don't want to spend extra time apart if it's going to be several months. Any advice?

Additional info: His brother is in the states on a work visa and his sister has also been to the states. Does that make the background check and approval faster?

Usually Egyptian beneficiaries go through a few months of AP after the interview so I would prepare accordingly.

Your time line estimates processing until March / April for DCF filing.

No, it does not make it any faster because his brother and sister are here.

Hope you can find someone with a similar case like yours that went before you to give you a more precise time table.

If you don't want to go through the expense of bringing your kids back to Senegal perhaps you can fly back home for a months

or two and then return be there for his interview. I have been to Dakar and also found it safe and comfortable.

Best wishes !

It seems you made a mistake on your timeline and chose DCF I-130 instead of normal I-130, since you said your petition is at the NSC. Currently Nebraska is processing petitions from June 7,2013 so you probably have a good 7 months or more of waiting time. Also, above poster is correct that Egyptian beneficiaries usually go through AP which could take weeks or even a year, depending on your case. Check out timelines for others from Egypt who have recently been approved for a better idea of the wait times.

If you go to the MENA forum, you'll see some posts about people being in AP from Egypt. Most are coming directly from Egypt, but their AP has been quite lengthy. You being in Senegal might yield a different processing time, but I imagine it will be more than a few months.

AP is acronym for administrative processing...where embassies/consulates place approved visa applicants into extra security and/or background checks. Sometimes to put more scrutiny on paperwork to ensure it is order.

Unfortunately this is more often done on males between a certain age range and from MENA and/or Muslim countries. Sometimes people are placed in AP for no specific reason(s)...and that's the unfortunate part. GL!

Just to add: I think looking at your timeline, it will be a good idea to bring the kids to live with you in Senegal; If you don't want to leave your husband there alone, because you're looking at a wait time of anywhere from 8 to 12months until visa approval. Then you guys will potentially be facing AP for an extended period of time.

I should have caught the NSC in your post but focused on the DCF. Since you corrected the timeline I agree that you have an extended wait time

ahead of you an I would also bring the kids to Senegal. You can estimate a year's wait give or take a little. No one can tell you how long AP

will last though. It took us 16 months in AP and beneficiary is non Muslim. Everyone's case is different.

Hi and welcome. I highly recommend you browse around and learn about the process, especially for MENA males. Egypt is considered high fraud, so it's almost for certain your husband will go through AP. There are many factors considered. It all depends on your story. So, you may be looking at 10-12 months.

All this said, he is Senegal. That may change things a little. Simply, read around the MENA forum.

Don't ever do anything you're not willing to explain the paramedics.

My friend whose husband from Egypt had AP beyond his interview for 14 months, so all together it took him 20 months to get his visa from the date of NOA1. She moved to Egypt with their baby to wait out the AP, he just arrived in the US yesterday, she filed the original petition in July 2012.

Not all consulates even allow DCF and at this point I doubt you could change it. In addition you usually have to have been a resident in the foreign country for at least 6 months before filing. It's not as easy as it sounds unfortunately
