Who among you experienced it? I applied for my NBI clearance last Feb 5 and I got a hit. They told me to be back today, feb 13. When I was there earlier, the officer told me to be at NBI Manila for further checking. I have to go through quality control. I am worried now because of some unpaid internet bills. Could it be the main reason? I need to get my clearance tom :( I need helpppppp!:'(

You only need to worry if you have criminal cases filed against you that led to your conviction or if you have open, unresolved cases.

I had to go through Quality Control at the NBI Manila main office. I had a namesake who had criminal cases filed against that person. I was made to sign an affidavit stating that I was not the same person and that

I did not commit those crimes of which the other person was accused of.

Right after giving the investigators that affidavit, I had my NBI clearance (no derogatory record) printed right next door to Quality Control.

Check my timeline for K-1 visa & AOS details

Unfortunately, you'll have to be interviewed at the main office which sucks but if you don't have cases or convictions then you shouldn't have a problem.

NBI is weird now. I got a clearance just last month but I had to apply again today to include my married name on the AKA part and I got a hit.

If it would be of any consolation, nobody can file a estafa case on the basis of unpaid bills unless you gave them a bounced check/ cheque. Relax! and go to NBI main as soon as you can. Proceed to the QC room when you get there. smile.png

If you have an NBI office near you then you can visit there and see what the "hit" contains. Once you have that information then you can proceed to get any information to explain your case away. My wife had a hit and did the same. With a friendly smile she found out that she needed to provide the NBI with copies of the court records that her 10 year old case had been dismissed. Once NBI (you will need to visit the Manila NBI to insure that your record is changed) had the her court papers with that notation, they updated her NBI records and she was cleared. Embassy was happy and issued her visa.

Now that you have time do the legwork do it now before the interview. Of course if you live in Manila then go to the Main office of the NBI and report to QC.

You will not pass your interview until the "hit" has been cleared and you receive a clear NBI clearance.

I am still disturbed by my situation. I am afraid to get arrested because of the unpaid bill. Hay :( But it is way back 2007 i think and i was able to get an NBI clearance last 2010 without having a hit or any problem.

I was told by a lawyer friend years ago that no one can go to jail because of unpaid bills, unless bouncing checks are involved. After a certain period of non-payment, the companies sell the debt to collections agencies.
