So my fiance and I submitted a K-1 visa application in November, and we front-loaded it pretty heavily as she is from Indonesia.

We just received the NOA2 back recently, which is far faster than I had expected to get it back. Of course, we are pretty happy about that....but it also means I am scrambling a bit to make sure I have everything ready for the next stage. Having read through the visa guide and the flowchart again, I was hoping you guys could clarify a few things for me.

For the Affadavit of Support, the Jakarta Embassy information says:

Affidavit of Support (Form I-134 fiance(e) visa applicants) from the petitioner or other qualified sponsor along with supporting evidence:
One (1) year of US income tax returns 1040 & W-2 (copies or faxes are acceptable)

Does this mean only the year immediately prior? So for me, would this be the tax return I filed in 2013? At the time I was working overseas, so although I filed taxes, I am worried they will require copies of the Japanese equivalent to a W-2....I think I have it, I'm just not sure. I have a copy of the return I filed, but is that sufficient in of itself?

Also, I own several stocks....I detailed out all the stock transactions as required when I filed my last year of taxes, but I am unclear if I have to request copies of my current stock holdings from by broker, or what forms they would need to see from my broker. I see in the FAQ on the I-134 it states : (D) List containing serial numbers and denominations of bonds and name of record owner(s). But I was not sure if this extended to stocks or not.

Finally, I did already get the statement from my bank about my account there, and also the letter from my work stating my standing / salary there....but I kinda jumped the gun and got both done back in November. Do I need to get those re-done so they show a current date, or is that not necessary?

Thanks for your time!

Hey cool, so you're basically in the same boat regarding the finances section.

I imagine that it couldn't hurt to get a letter similar to the banking letter from my stock broker....I just dont want to spend time gathering paperwork that won't serve a purpose...

Hi there,

Indonesia is not one of high fraud countries for visa. As my fiance and myself, we were not front-loading for I-129F nor for K-1 visa process. If she has the interview before tax season, you should be fine get ITR 2012 for her. My fiance gave me copy of ITR 2012 and W-2. During documents screening before the interview, the lady at Window 5 only asked original I-134, ITR 2012, and W-2. As long as you are above poverty guidelines for household size, you should be just fine.

She did not even bother ask another supporting documents even my fiance provided me stock and bonds investment papers, bank account for his saving, life insurance policies, and paycheck. They only care current income to support your fiancee. For more details, you can looked up my review on my timeline for US Embassy in Jakarta. If you need more information, you can PM me anytime! Oh, if you can, go to interview with her. I had my fiance with me and really helped me a lot. Tell her to notify the embassy that you'll come for the interview.

Hello jm123,

So, this morning I just started filing my taxes. This past year I was working in another country just like you. I am still filing my US tax return and the taxes for Canada, but my accountant recommened to me making copies of everything once it is filed and giving it to my fiancé with the affidavit of support as it will show that I have been working and although currently "unemployed" in the US (looking for work), it will help show my intention, I do work, and I do file taxes. I am also going to have a co-sponsor (my mother) who was living and working the whole year in the USA, so I am hoping all this will work. Unfortunately, I don't have stocks... :(

Keep me updated on your process. Did your fiancée receive her documents yet?

Thanks for the information, that is a big help!

Just to be clear, I am a little concerned about the W-2 requirement...as of last year I was working abroad, so I'm not sure if I still have the Japanese version of the W-2 form....and if I do, I'd have to get it translated, right? Will they accept a tax return without a W-2 in that case?

I have a letter from my current employer detailing my current salary, position, hire date, etc. that I received back in December, so that's covered....but I don't think I have my W-2 from my current job yet.

Do I wait to file my 2013 taxes and my 2013 W-2 or attempt to use 2012 despite the overseas job? Any thoughts?
