Help! Can we get SSN once we get EAD ?

Hi, I am from Japan and has entered US with the status of K1. ( My husband is US citizen ).

We married in the 90 day time-frame and then applied for AOS, EAD and AP, waiting to be confirmed.

I have already read above URL about SSN with K1 status and understand that we could apply for SSN after 14 days from the date of arrival with I94 prior to the expiration date.

However, by the time I have noticed above info, it was too late, which means my I94 was no longer eligible.

My question is... since I cannot apply for SSN at this moment, am I be able to apply SSN upon I get my EAD or have to wait until I get my green card?

It seems like this kind of information has been becoming snarled. and According to my friend (who has exactly same status as me) visited social security office and was told you have to wait SSN until we get green card (not EAD) which is confusing to me.

You are entitled (and need) one once you have the EAD. It's on the approved list if documents for proving work authorization. http://www.ssa.gov/pubs/EN-05-10096.pdf

Check the social security office and take all of the necessary proof of identity.

As stated, take your EAD, completed SS-5 form (application for a social security card) and a certified copy of your birth certificate to your nearest SSA office; it should be a snap.

Yes you can. Just bring your EAD, make a copy of it. Also your birth certificate and other documents like your marriage certificate. You will fill a form in the SS office. It's very quick. God bless!
