And where do you fly from? :)

I usually fly from Heathrow with Delta, I have quite a lot of miles, anyone know if I can use these to pay in part for my flight? That'd be pretty cool :D

But yes! Wondering who you guys all fly with, and where from. What airports/airlines work out the cheapest etc?

I fly with Delta from Heathrow to Atlanta then on to Gulfport, Mississippi. It's one of the few airlines that goes to Gulfport.

I also have a lot of miles. I think we are a little unlucky, as we cant earn the "dollars" in order to use our miles. Well that's how I've interpreted it haha

I tend to fly from Heathrow to Boston, BA are okay, Virgin are good. American were really bad. As I live in the rain lashed wilds of the westcountry for my next flight I'll probably fly Bristol-Dublin-Boston and go through POE at Dublin. It's a little cheaper and more convenient.

You should be able to use your miles but bear in mind that most of the cost of Transatlantic flights is taxes that the idiots of the Labour party and the Coalition have stuck on flights so you will probably find the miles do not go towards the tax part of the ticket and you still have to pay a fair chunk!

I've just seen in your signature that you have an interview on Valentines Day Otter! Here's hoping that it's the most awesome and memorable one ever for you and your fiancé when you are approved smile.png

If you don't mind a stopover in Dublin, my last trip to England I flew on Aer Lingus both ways. I went Boston -> Dublin -> Birmingham, and then the opposite coming back. Walked away with an overall positive impression of the airline.

Also it's nice if you're traveling into England as you don't have to put up with the madness that Heathrow can be, I pretty much walked straight through customs and border without a second glance.

Once you factor in the wait time at Heathrow just to get to the border officials, then waiting like 5 hours for a bus to where I was going and then the hour or so bus ride, I saved time by doing a couple hour stopover in Dublin, as Birmingham had a train right there to take me to where I was going.

I fly Delta out of preference, I hate BA they made my wife cry the way they treated her the last time we flew with them and Heathrow is a disaster even with a lounge card. We usually use Paris or Amsterdam. If you don't know the airports Paris is confusing and some of the terminals are lacking in places to eat or sit if you don't have lounge access the lounges are fine though and the newest one is one of my favourite terminals/lounges around. Amsterdam is a really simple airport just a bit of a sprawl and it can take a long time to get to the gate from either the lounge or just the central arcade. I usually use my miles for flights in the USA as they are all around $10. When My son flies unaccompanied we have used both delta through Amsterdam and virgin, delta charge $100 each way for unaccompanied minor, but tend to be cheapest and Virgin will take an unaccompanied minor for no extra, but Virgin don't have a kids zone at heathrow and he ended up sitting with the checkin girls in there break room, admittedly he was one of the first to use there service. They also didn't charge extra to fly into NYC and out of Boston.

If its the Medallion Qualification Dollars they only apply if you have a USA address, I have deliberately kept mine as a UK address as my company tickets are booked with air france and would' count for MQD but I prefer the Delta sky miles club, I would have lost my Platinum Card if I had a US address even though I fly over 150,000 miles a year with sky team.

You will be able to book tickets no problem with your miles but a uk address means that they will charge you £6 a ticket instead of $10 we are going to Denver this weekend with my miles and it actually worked in our favour with the pound at the moment $19.63 including fee from card for paying in sterling, instead of $20.

The miles are grew for last minute tickets as they don't get more expensive, even if booked 3 days in advance.

If you want to use them to fly to Europe make sure your first landing point is outside of the UK, Amsterdam or paris then get a short haul connection to the UK. european landing fees in the uk are much lower than transatlantic, and the French and Dutch have much lower transatlantic fees. I think I paid about $250 in taxes let time to go to Edinburgh

I fly BA between Heathrow and Baltimore, it's the only real choice but I am happy with it. Neither me or my wife (USC) have had any trouble at Heathrow, normally out within an hour of landing at T5.

Used to fly out of Heathrow to Boston. I've used BA (ok), delta (my fave of all the airlines I've ever travelled with) and AA when I went travelling and flew to LA (ok but terrible staff on board).

Nowadays I fly Cardiff-Dublin-Boston with Aer Lingus. As others have said, it works out a few hours quicker by the time you factor in travelling to Heathrow etc. Dublin airport isn't bad at all. Not a huge fan of the airline though, they've changed my flight times every single time I've used them, sometimes numerous times. Petty things but on-board I feel that they make waaaay too many announcements when I just want to settle in and zone out with a movie, and the food is hit or miss. Worth it for the convenience of flying out of my local airport though so it can't be too bad :P

We typically flew USAirways, mostly because I worked with them and used to fly for free and we just got into the habit of flying with them. Hubby has flown American Airlines before and used to like them, but the last time he flew them he said it was awful...and now of course, AA and USAirways are merged so who knows. He has also flown United and he said never again. BA was nice. The last time we flew, we flew Manchester UK, to Iceland, to Boston...on Icelandair. They were good, and their one way flights were really cheap compared to other one ways. No frills...but nice.

Yep valentines day haha! Me and him have never gotten to spend a Valentines day together :( (One time I had to fly home 2 days before Valentines as it was when my 90 days ran out!) so to get approved would make it the best ever!! :)

Glad to see there are lots of fans of flying with Delta!! I've flew with them twice and my other flight was with American Airlines. Loved Delta, AA not so much, considering checking for cheaper prices with other airlines but I may end up using Delta. And thanks to those who gave advice about the miles ^^

As for routes, first time was Heathrow>LA>Salt Lake City, second was Heathrow>Detroit (got a grumpy border guy here haha)>Salt Lake City, and last time I went Stansted>Dublin (Ryanair) and then Dublin>JFK>Las Vegas

Most airlines let you redeem your miles for flights once you have accumulated enough and you might just hold on to them until the big day of your actual move and book the flight on miles. Reason? One way tickets on miles are same price as return, one way ticket paid in cash (well, money, credit card etc) are super expensive and return tickets can really screw up your immigration process (There are some horror stories here where AOS was denied because the airline didn't remove the name from the list and thus for the USCIS the person had left the country before obtaining advanced parole and thus they had to start over with CR1).

I once flew London- Reykjavik- Minneapolis with Icelandair, like you say it was definitely no frills but also cheaper than the alternatives. Will look out for the one way flight option with them as the rivals are not cheap at all!
