I am the US Citizen, my wife is my foreign spouse, who came to US a few years ago on K-1 Visa. We married in the 90 day time-frame and then waited a few years before submitting AOS paperwork.

My wife just received her EAD card which says "Serves as I-512 Advance Parole" at the bottom of it. Apparently, it is a dual card for work authorization and travel.

I am aware that she cannot travel given that she would trigger a 10 year ban since we waited a few years before submitting the AOS paperwork.

My question is... since this card says she is able to work, I assume she is now able to go get a SS#? (We tried with her I-94, a long time ago but we missed it by a day... we went 14 days before her I-94 expired).

We would like to go get her a SS card so she can begin building credit, etc. What documents will we need to take to the SS office to get a SS card? I assume we need to take this EAD card. Do we need to take her original birth certificate or original marriage certificate? Please let me know if we need to take anything other than the EAD card.

Thanks

Yes, you can now go and get her SSN. Yes, take the EAD/AP card with you to prove her status.

~ Moved from AOS from Family Based to Social Security Numbers - topic is about SSN ~
