My fiancée (Filipina) and I (American) are in the midst of filling out the D-160 (an online form that a part of the k1-visa process). She has her passport which will expire in 3 months. According the one of the criteria, in order to complete the D-160 there are points in the form that ask for her passport information. The passport information must not be less than 6 months in terms of the expiration date. We are taking the necessary steps to renew her passport however; this process will cause a minimum of a 2 week delay in our objective to complete the D-160. Patience is definite a virtue during this journey and we really don’t mind waiting the two weeks. However, since my fiancée is from the Philippines and their government business process is not always a science what would be the ripple effect if we did not provide that information and proceeded process the DS-160 without acknowledging that she has a passport?

The DS-160 must be accurate, any attempt of deception, will cause you severe harmn, do what is required of both of you, and "strictly" comply.

Somebody went to sleep about this passport situation! My wife is from Cebu, and one of the first things I checked was her esp. of passport.,..,just do not decieve these people, in the slightest way, ### it will ruin your journey.

Wait until you have the new passport, don't be impatient. It only take a hour or two to do the DS-160 .. no don't rush.

raven52 I think you mis-read my post. no one was referring to trying to deceive anyone. I was just trying to equate how important her passport was in this process. I have a passport myself that I only use when I travel outside the U.S. I don't use it as my main form of ID. So, my question was geared towards identifying the validity of the document in reference to this process. I am fully aware of the sensitive nature of this process and have no intention of deception. Thanks for the responses, we will just wait on her passport.

A friend of mine just had the same problem with his K-1 fiancée's DS-160. His fiancée's passport was not valid for the required six months. My friend told me he was unable to submit the DS-160 when using the passport's existing expiration date. He waited a few weeks until his fiancée got her passport renewed and then it was no problem.

Awesome Tahoma, thank for a sensible and realistic approach to my question. We have moved forward on renewing her visa and ETA is Feb 18, 2014. So, we are stalled right now but from this wisdom is gained.

No problem, yraheem. Best wishes to you and your fiancée for a smooth journey.
