The green light of course.

Although most people interpret the "right on red" rule as "right through red!".

Marilyn and Peter,

K-1 Timeline in Profile (our story)

Church wedding Sept 18

NOA1's for AOS/EAD received Sept 20 MSC #

Biometrics completed Nov 5 2004

EAD Approval Dec 29 2004

AOS appointment letter received Feb 3 2005

AOS interview scheduled for March 9 2005

AOS interview mostly fine, just need I-693 supplement filled out by civil surgeon

Spend another $40 for I-693 form, sent to local USCIS office registered mail, arrived March 11 2005

AOS finally approved March 25th 2005

Green card arrives about 10 days later

!!Green card has incorrect middle name!! Thanks USCIS

Travel back to Denver, turn in card and I-90 to correct their mistake.

Application accepted, asked for I-551 stamp, they told me "We don't do stamps anymore"

NOA1 for I-90 received from NSC April 18 2005, fee waived

NSC appears to have stoped processing I-90's

Marilyn needs to travel back to the RP, call Senators office for help with green card or I-551 stamp

Travel back to Denver July 1, 2005 and received I-551 stamp in the passport.

If you have a drivers license you should know the answer. Turning right on red must yield to any green light.

That was a bit of a silly answer. There are millions of people out there that have a driver's license and still get pulled over each year for not knowing, or following, the road regulations.

How is it known that millions of people don't know the law and do this? I don't have any data, but I think that if you drive (have a drivers license) , the probability of knowing this basic rule of the road must be very high, certainly the majority. (the poll result suggests this.) It's very basic driving knowledge, let alone common sense. Not knowing the purpose of the question, my answer wasn't silly

If a person is turning left at a light with a left turn arrow and it's green and another person is turning right on a red light onto the same road who has the right of way?

Both "persons" have the right of way. Pedestrians always have the right of way.

If by "persons" you mean "vehicles", then the vehicle turning right on red must yield

to other vehicles and pedestrians.

(Turning right on red is illegal in many places, including New York City.)

I was wondering if there are states where it is illegal to turn right on a red light. I should have stated that is legal to turn right on a red light in California unless stated otherwise.

The reason I posted this thread is because I was driving the other day and ran into this situation. I had a green arrow to turn left and someone came flying up to a red light to turn right onto the same road I was turning onto and didn't stop and almost ran into my car so I honked at him and he gave me the finger... I just wanted to see if it is common knowledge that the green arrow has the right away. It does seem like a no brainer that any green light has priority over any red light but I thought I would ask anyways.

I think the real question based on your experience is do people know they are to come to a complete stop.....

YMMV

That too... but I was wondering if people think that with a green arrow I was supposed to let that ####### go first. (even though in my heart I know he shouldn't go first)

It's simple Green Arrow, because a vehicle at a red light never has the right of way.

garya,

I can. The anecdotal evidence here on VJ clearly indicates that people mis-read questions all the time, the answer they give not being what the question asks for.

(Did it myself just today.)

Yodrak

I can't believe 8% choose the red light.

sarah and hicham,

He was wrong to go through the red light without stopping first to check if his way was clear, but keep in mind that you had one bit of information that he did not have - he could not see that you had a green arrow.

If he was not familiar with the intersection he would have had no idea that the traffic facing him was free to make the turn you made.

Good thing you were more alert and responsible than he was.

That's true Yodrak, although where I live is a college town with a bunch of crazy drivers. It looked like a young guy. Either way, he should have stopped and made sure no one was going before he decided to bolt.
