jenn,

On my obnoxious days, that honk from behind is my signal to stay at a full stop and wait for the light to turn green before making the turn.

Yodrak

I've had people honk at me for coming to a full stop before taking a right on red. They just wanna speed right through. Stupid a$$holes!

My father used to always say "Right-of-way is something you never have, but may have to yield at any time."

That is, despite the fact that the person with the green arrow does, in fact, technically have right-of-way ... well, a fat lot of good it does you if the other person smashes into you! You can never assume that the other drivers know the rules.

We should have German driving instruction here, prior to license issuance. They have one of the most stringent driving programs in the world. Driving is a privledge there, not a right, as it is here. No wonder there are so many accidents. Too many idiots on the road.

If you have a drivers license you should know the answer. Turning right on red must yield to any green light.

I do have a drivers license, and I do know that the person with the green arrow has the right of way.

Do you have a drivers license?

Well you know Sarah, you do have to have a LEGITMATE reason for posting the poll..i.e. you or Hicham made an error, can't agree, etc because heaven knows we are not allowed to ask a question out of mere curiosity. :P

The green arrow, the one with the red light is required to yeld before turning. And I got my driver's license yesterday  so if I was asked this before coming to the States I would still give the right answer, even tho I didn't know you could turn right when the light is red.

PS: in Brazil if the light is red you can't turn right, you have to wait for it to turn green, or if there's a green arrow.

I don't even have to have an obnoxious day to do this. If someone has been on my bumper all the way up to this stop, I'll stay stopped until I have a green light. I can't stand when someone is on my bumper...as if I'm not speeding fast enough for them!

jenn,

To be extra certain that someone I don't see doesn't come out of nowhere and hit me because I was paying more attention to the horn behind instead of the road ahead.
