Hi everyone

So we just sent the petition off for I-130 last week.

I am the beneficiary and I'm currently living in New Zealand but I will be moving to Australia at the end of the month for work and I will be staying there throughout the duration of our petition.

I just wanted to know if this will affect my petition? If and when I finally get an interview will it be here in New Zealand or in Australia? Can I get my medical done in Australia or will I have to keep flying back to New Zealand whenever I need to do something for this visa?

Well if you haven't already then I would let them know your about to move in a months time and give them your new address (if available). As long as they know where you are going to be living during the process then they should arrange for you to do things there. Worst case scenario is you would have to travel back and forth.

For the petition it doesn't matter but you want to make sure you get the right case number at the NVC. Get a police clearance from NZ before you leave and you should be fine. As long as you're a legally residing in AUS you can have your medical and interview there.

Right after your petition gets approved and before you get case # from NVC contact NVC and give them the new address. The first three letters should correspond to the consulate ( you can get the list from DOS site). If you get the wrong case# , make sure you get it corrected before they ship out. Once it leaves the NVC, things are complicated. One consulate needs to get approval from the other to transfer the files. So more complicated at consulate level.

change it up at NVC.

I assume you are writing of USCIS.

Not useful for anyone chasing a CR-1 visa, as this stuff can get changed/fixed during NVC processing, right at the start of it.

Is a larger problem for K-1 visa chasers, certainly...

Just a small note, a fork in yer process above.

NVC ain't shipping anything, for a CR-1 visa chaser, till all of the documents are in the casefile and the fees paid.

Best time to fix this, is at NVC, on day 1 or 2 of knowing the Consular Casefile #. Changing Embassies then takes about a day, and requires a telephone call with a supervisor to get a different Consular Casefile # generated.

That's basically what I said.
