my_destiny,

Depends on the specific details of your situation and how much work you are willing to put in to learn what you need to know.

Have a consultation with an immigration attorney to review your situation, ask questions, and get some tips. Then, based on the information that you have gotten, decide whether you want to go forward on your own or hire the attorney to work for you.

Please, tell me your opinions what is best to hire a lawyer or do it yourself. We have a lawyer in our K-1 visa but Im thinking if we should still hire a lawyer when filling for Adjustment of Status once at the US already.

I appreciate all your comments and suggestions.

Yes it really depends about alot.

Our I-129F went smoothly and guess we could be without help back this time

It first show up after the interview all the complications.

In fact our lawyer haven't been expensive.

He wanted $1000 from start and we could contact him whenever we want which lastet a year.

Since I wasn't approved at the interview we had to go further and couldn't be without him and should pay $1500 to continue.

It's alot of money I know.

It's 3 weeks ago I found VJ as a coinsidence.

So very unsecure we have been from the start.

We started June 22 2005.

I have a minor son that are included too.

I also now are in doubt if we need a lawyer when we shall do this adjustment of status.

Thank you very much for your responses.

In my opinion unless your case is complicated or there are some issues that you feel may work against your case then an attorney could be a good idea...otherwise just a lot of patience and common sense is all that you will need to get thru the process on your own. We did both parts by ourselves and with great results...But as they say no two cases are alike...Good luck with your process and any decison that you will make...

Hi Dorothy.

Yes and I can tell you that we never think about those money.

We just want it to go through.

Mike should give me a visit in denmark this christmas, but we decided to pay lawyer instead and can maybe be together very soon.

Our deadline is as known within the next 5 or 6 weeks were the case will be completed. :)

save your money and use it on a nice trip to spend with your baby, i wasted a $1000.00 hiring one and all she did was send me the i-129 forms to fill out. later i found this site and this is your best attorney right here, all the info you need and then some. it helped me out so much here i schooled my attorney on allot of things that she had no clue.

Ok We have already paid for rest of the case.

So no regrets we can have.

But anyway we feel secure now

Yes I saw this VJ website one and a half year later as we started this visajourney.

But it still gives us alot of great hints and we love to follow it everyday

I used an attorney and it was the best decision I made. I sent him all of the information, he made out the forms and submitted everything to the California Service center. It took only 60 days and I was approved and received my NOA2. I was given back everything he sent in, along with a letter to the US embassy in Manila stating "this is the information used to apply for the NOA2 approval notice". My fiancee will give this information along with the information asked for in her interview package to the interviewer on February 13th, (day before Valentine's Day.).

I suppose this is one advantage of using an attorney, along with the idea that I never worried about if I had sent the right forms, if I had submitted enough or all of the information needed or whether I would receive any RFE's. (I never received any.) By the way, I filed for the I-129F visa.

For me, I dont like to hire again another lawyer for AOS, because I heard that it is a lot more easier than the visa journey. I hope my fiance will agree with that.

Our lawyer sent me a already filled up forms that I need for the interview. There are some corrections but he said that I can correct it with my initial beside the correction. He has his signature already in the form and it was dated. He also send me possible questions that the consul might ask me. He also sent me some of the papers my fiance sent to them.

I just wonder why some of his instructions is not the same as the embassy instructions here in the Philippines like getting the packet 3 since PI beneficiary dont receive packet 3 instead of packet 4 that contains instructions and forms.

So, what I do is read all the experiences that others had gone through.

I appreciate all your comments and suggestions.

I just used the K-1 guide here on VJ including the assembly guide and we breezed right through the process so unless there is some sort of complex issue I see no reason for hiring an attorney. It was the same for the AOS also, we just followed the guide and in five months Claudeth had her green card.

Good luck

With no complications you maybe don't need any lawyer
