Yes marriage certificates from Nigeria are recognized you are considered married here if both of you were free to marry when you did.

It usually takes up to 30 days to get your NOA1 in mail. I would assume it was returned before a receipt # was ever issued because of the mistakes so just tell her to hold on it should be coming if everything is in order.

A lawyer to do what? You have already filed, Now you wait. This will be the hardest part. But your wife and you could be reading up on the next stage after USCIS approves your petition and send to NVC.

Read post #1 and #2 of NVC filers thread, In fact i would be following that thread while you are waiting for approval.

@dwheels76 Thanx,so she should expect it in mail,no need to contact uscis?is it going to take more than one year??Tanx

Normally the processing are the same as it was at your case you will have to wait for up to 8-10 month's of waiting to get approved or RFE for instance when USCIS would need more evidence from both sides to obtain whatever it was. Just complying it whatever it asks from you Will not be problem

There is nothing she can do at this time- as mentioned, it can take a month to get NOA1, maybe a bit more this time of year with all the holidays.

What she could do, if she paid with a check, is to see if that was cashed yet.
