Just need a cheap (preferably free) sim I can jam in an unlocked phone so I have a phone number people can contact me on, and use to supply companies or organisations that need it. Preferably with some data allowance, but if not thats fine.

I need to be able to literally walk in to a store and pay cash as I ahve no card, and only just received my SSN.

Thanks.

Mobile phones in the US do not work that way.

In Vietnam, the person receiving a call is not charged anything. Only the caller uses his minutes.

In the US, both the caller and the receiving party are charged. So, you would need to pay for voice service even if all you intend is to receive calls.

It works in the UK as it does in vietnam.

What awful charges here for phones.

In the USA, you say? Drag yerself to Walmart,

purchase a sim for 6.86 and service for 30 days for 45 bucks.

Sure, Walmart Sucks, but it meets your other criteria .

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

Get a prepaid phone. Check online for deals. You can get good plans for not too much money and you can pay as you go.

Good luck!
