In the interest of accuracy, he didn't try to play cricket in India. He played in Pakistan.

Apologies... Speed-read the article !! :P

For people that have done both is it harder to hit a cricket ball than a baseball? Seems to me it would be easier, since the cricket bat is more of a paddle.

Cricket is much easier in terms of making contact with the ball. The challenge is in the movements of your wrist when you bat.

I'm by no means an expert at either but having tried a few baseball batting cages I personally feel cricket is easier. As mentioned the bat has a larger surface area but you also have the advanatge of the ball bouncing when it's bowled (pitched) to you. Agent smith is correct that much of cricket is about moving the bat in your hands in order to guide the ball around the field. Baseball is more about timing and strength... hit the ball at the right time hard enough and your home free. Cricket is also a more defensive game where the object isn't always to hit the ball as hard and far as possible.

The times I've tried baseball I've sucked badly. My 10 year old stepdaughter swings a bat better than I ever could !!

Cricket is all about finesse and precision. Brute force does work at times (like when you have less than an over left with 20 runs to win) but for the most part, it's about precision.
