Hi friends

It's been a long time since I've posted here and I've gotten myself into a silly situation.

I came in to the US from Canada on a K-1 Visa, in Dec 2008. Married Feb '09. I got my 2 yr green card with no prob, but when it came time to get my permanent resident card we were asked to submit more documentation and then we had to go for an interview. The day after the interview, early March of 2012, I got a letter saying I was approved. Months passed and I never received my green card. I went in to USCIS around this time last year as I was traveling to Canada for my dad's wedding. I filled out the form to request a replacement of my card that I never got. (we did not move in that time so I don't know why I didn't get it). In the meantime she stamped my passport which is good for a year (until Feb 2014) for me to travel. I got a letter back from USCIS saying that my green card hadn't been returned to them so I must have lost it and needed to fill out the form saying it was lost or stolen, pay the $450. I didn't have that kind of money so I just forgot about it until now.

Now I am planning on going to Jamaica in March for a family wedding. Is that enough time to get citizenship? OR should I suck it up, pay the $450 and ask for a replacement green card, get another stamp in the meantime saying I can travel?

Thanks in advance for any advice in this matter.

You can't count on getting your citizenship in time , To file for citizenship you need a copy front and back of your current green card.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

I agree with the above poster. You will need your 10 year GC for your Citizenship application. No matter what you need to get a replacement 10 yr GC.
