We seemed to have hit a roadblock in the process of getting my Thai wife her spouse visa. We sent in the visa app along with all the required documentation about 2 months ago. I received a response from the NVC stating the following:

3 - BIRTH CERTIFICATE:_______________________________________
The document you submitted is not an original or certified copy of an original issued by the appropriate
government authority. The document must be an original, or a certified copy of the original, bearing the
original seal or stamp from the issuing authority.
[TNT 11/29/2013]
I went with her to get this when I was visiting her 3 months ago and it was a copy from the actual birth logbook they keep at the Amphur along with the required stamp. We then took to and got it translated to English. When I first got the email from the NVC I called them and explained that it was a valid birth certificate and that it was the only one the Amphur will issue. The lady I talked to at the NVC said she would resubmit it to someone higher up the chain. Well happy thanksgiving I got the same response today stating the same thing. I have no clue what to do, my wife even went back to the Amphur after the first rejection letter and they told her that was all they can issue.
Has anyone else ever ran into this problem?

Its been over two months at NVC. My suggestions is call now back to NVC speak to a Supervisor and request they case complete you. You tell them that original will be presented at interview. They should approve no issues.

Report back what they say.

Hopefully this will be in the Thai portal soon.

This happens at times. There are other cases here on V J that pertain to the creation and acceptance of the right doc. This is easier at the embassy level.

Ask NVC to transfer case to embassy where the proper doc can be submitted directly.

I see you found VJ. Welcome. You'll actually get better responses here regarding this issue than you will there. I responded to your post on Thaivisa. I'll respond here with the same response I posted there.

I'm not sure what type of visa you are applying for, but I'll assume it's CR-1 or IR-1 since you mentioned NVC. My wife didn't have a birth certificate at all when we went through the NVC process. She got a letter similar to yours for NVC from the Amphur and they accepted it. It MUST be an original from the Amphur with an English translation. NVC will not accept copies of the birth certificate or the police clearance. PM me if you like, an I'll send you what we used for NVC as proof of birth. See here for more guidance:

Birth Certificates

Available. The issuance of birth certificates in Thailand began in Bangkok in 1917. Records of birth are often lacking for people born in Bangkok before World War II and for those born in other areas of the country up until the 1970s. Birth Certificates are issued by "Amphur," (geographic subdivision roughly equivalent to a county in the U.S.) district authorities having jurisdiction over the place of birth. There may be a fee for this service.

A Thai citizen older than 15 and born in Thailand, whose birth was not registered, must present in its stead a household registration, together with a Thai national identity card ("bat prachachon"), and may also be required to submit additional proof of the claimed relationship.
