Been through Iwa but not Iniki. This storm is even stronger than Iniki. I hope the brunt of the storm misses them. Also hope they have real secure place to hide, that is not near water. I remember being at UH Hilo during Iniki and being so worried for my parents. Ingat.

Mike & Gina here in CEBU riding the storm out. High winds but not much rain here. I'm NOT impressed!! I've been through stronger winds during tornados in Ohio. The storm path apparently went further north and missed here in CEBU more, as earlier they said the "eye" would pass over Cebu. I've been here since October 15th.....got shook by earthquake within 7 hours here, been sick for 2 weeks thanks to the Cebu germs, smog, and pollution.....messed up my interview application date page with Embassy, fell off my bike and broke my left thumb, and now typhoon which has us no TV, and no electric. Gosh, I love Cebu, The Philippines, and especially my honey Gina!!

Yes, Hank having fun, fun, and more fun. Nothing else to do but laugh and enjoy all that has gone on since I left the good ole USA. Concerned about Filipina doctors here.....been battling a cold for 10 days now....regular cold like I get in Ohio. We went to the hospital and got examined, xray'd, etc... They would NOT give me any antibiotics?? Worried that they do not know how to diagnose and treat a simple common cold?! As far as our visa petition goes.....Embassy replied with an email that said "We referred your communication to our processing team for appropriate action." We received that on November 5th. Gina and I went to the U.S. Consulate at the Waterfront Hotel in Cebu. He said nothing he could do, and has no contact with Embassy as they don't communicate with him (strange?). He said go ahead and go up there and proceed with the interview and interview date - November 25th as if Gina as the applicant. So we are going to St. Luke's next week - 13. 14 & 15. We'll see what happens?? We preregistered on line as Gina as the patient/applicant. God bless us all.

We have friends in Tacloban that just bought a house this year, he's an expat and she's filipino from my wife's home town. We haven't heard anything from them. We're praying for them, there's nothing else we can do.

Where on Samar if you don't mind me asking, what town? Northern Samar didn't receive much damage btw.

I am NOT laughing at the Philippine people, nor am I laughing at the victims of the typhoon. YOU misunderstood my post sir. I love the Philippine people and country of The Philippines or I would NOT choose to live here 6 months every year. I was "making light" of my own personal events and unfortunate situations which have occurred, and which I have had to endure recently since I arrived here. I feel sorry and compassion for the Philippine people and victims of all the tragedies which have occurred here.

Mike, I believe the underlined above is what he was referring to. I thought it was inappropriate when I read it too.

I'm sure you didn't mean anything by it but people are so stressed out at this point. He didn't say you were laughing at anyone, he said you were "jesting" about storms.

typo808, "My brothers, this is no laughing matter. How can you jest about storms at this time?"

Let's all pull together rather than arguing.

The news coming out of there is truly horrific and made me sad. Even though my fiance and family is in Manila, it still hit close to the heart, knowing that that it could have very well been 300 miles further north instead of where it made landfull. And it could have been last November instead of this one, when she and I were vacationing in Coron, where it was leveled yessterday from Haiyan. I'm so glad she will be flying here to be with me in a month and getting out of that danger zone. But I feel sorry for her family and for all those affected by the typhoon this weekend.

We understand you didn't purposely laugh at the sad situation going on right now.

However, it's VERY INAPPROPRIATE to laugh (in real life) or use the word "laugh" (on the internet, digital world) in sad situation in which a lot of deaths are involved.

One should ALWAYS think twice, and say only once......................................because there're always people out there LISTENNING to your remarks/comments.

Your "laughing" comment, in whatever angle intended, is NOT in the right place and time IMHO.

You don't go to a funeral with a laughing face (even if you just found out you won the jackpot of the biggest Powerball ever)!!!!!

Just saying........nothing personally. Please read the topic of this thread. It's about sharing your sadness and condolences to the lives lost due to the monster storm, not sharing your past personaly life, either happy or sad.

I apologize to all I offended. My "intentions" were not to offend anyone. Yes, I used a poor choice of words and wrote a sentence which I should not have wrote. My error!
