Hi everyone,

Needless to say, I've been searching online forever for information on which path my fiancee and I should take, but it's so confusing and overwhelming.

My fiancee and I met online and have been in a relationship for 2 years. We plan on marrying and spending our lives together. He's a British citizen living in the UK and I'm an American citizen living in the US.

We would like to marry and live in the UK.

We're not sure which is the best way to do this.

I know that as an American citizen, I'm allowed to visit the UK and stay there for 90 days.

We were thinking of me just going to the UK as a tourist and marrying. After that, we really don't know what to do.

I'm a Registered nurse and would like to work there and know that I need to be registered with the NMC before working there as a nurse.

When we marry, will I be able to apply for a work permit? If so, where do I apply and how long will it take for me to get one?

We know that the easiest way would be for him to travel here and get married in the US and stay here with me, however, he has PTSD and is not able to get on a plane. I have told him that I'd go over there and get on the plane with him and give him sedatives, but he's not budging.

I really don't know what to do.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your reply in advance.

Have you met in person within the past two years?

You cannot marry in the UK without a British visa ("entry clearance").

If your fiancé cannot / will not fly then he could always come over by boat instead. Bear in mind that he would need to return to the UK once his period of authorised stay expired.
