Fee at Border?

Hi Fellow Canadians,

Just wondering if I have to pay an immigrant fee at the border when I cross on the K1 Visa? This is the link I found from someone else's post: http://www.uscis.gov/forms/uscis-immigrant-fee. It's the first I'm hearing about it and just wondering if I'm mixing it up with another type of visa or everyone has to pay this...

No. Immigrant fee does not apply to K1.

Hi,thank you. I just read of someone who is k1 having issues at the mexican border and they insisted they have it so it confused me.

If I remember right, there was a $6 fee at land border crossings. From testimonies here, some crossings forget to collect it.

I've never paid a fee to cross the border between U.S. and Canada.

I have also heard something about a cash fee of $6 but don't remember who mentioned it, sorry.

Most importantly though, even if you were required to pay the $165 new immigrant fee (which you're not at this point since it's a fiance visa) it isn't done at the border. It is done before or after your POE and it is in order to complete the process and have your green card generated. Most of us pay it before we cross just to keep the ball rolling but the stamp we get (on immigrant visas) serves like a temporary green card for up to a year anyway in our passport. As soon as the new immigrant fee is paid then the green card would go in the queue to be generated and sent out.

The cr-1/ir-1 do not pay a fee at the border....BUT i recall reading that k1'ers pay $6 or $7 for the i-94, but I could be wrong

I had to pay a $6 fee at the border for POE. I crossed at the Peace Bridge.

For a K-1 it's a $6 (US) dollar fee at the border, it's for the I-94. I think it has to be cash. You can call CBP at the border where you are making your POE just to be sure.

Thanks everyone. I'm not worried about the $6 or $7 fee. Was wondering about the immigrant fee. Glad that's settled.
