We did not change my wife's name after we got married in Colombia last year and went thru the entire visa process with her maiden name

Does anyone know the process and cost of getting name changed here in the US after the visa process? Also once its done do you just notify the USCIS of the name change?

Process is basically a court filing and some details of the filing depend of the specific country you are. As for costs, depdns on fees the county would charge and other related costs, for example, they would want to see a marriage cert in English, don't know if they might want it certified, apostilla, etc.

It is fairly simple and a DIY, but you can hire an attorney, which more likely would use one of their paralegals to do it.

There is no special reaquirement to change names, many people never do.

One additioanl piece of info, during naturalization, there is an opportunity to change name at no cost; but that is 3+ years down the road.

If you do change names, you might want to do it before getting SSN, state id, bank acocunts, etc; as it becomes more work later on.

For a green card to be re-issued in her married name, you would have to file an I-90 and pay the fee which is currently is $450.
