I am not from Canada (I have only been there for vac). Don't know if you 'd believe me, but if I 'd have the chance to MOVE to Canada, I 'd do that no questions asked. What would keep you in the States the way our politicians turned them to be and today ain't nothing but a luxury prison with golden bars, where we feel "secure" and "happy" while the government has under surveillance every little step we take and every breath we take and they only thing they haven't taxed yet is sex and farts... Don't come here, my friend. If Canada is no good for you, then here is ####### and you 'll regret the time you 've set your foot on this country if you come; remember my words.

Canada is beautiful, but financially, and despite the minimum wage being lower here in the Southern US, everything seems over-all more affordable than my previous situation. I mean, I could have never thought in a million years I'd be able to buy a nice, upgraded house before I turned 30 that was under 600K MINIMUM. Most houses, in British Columbia (Vancouver area) are around a million dollars. Here, there are great places in new neighborhoods that are 100K-200K.

I didn't have many strong ties to Canada other than my friends, which were more like family. I miss them a lot, but we can visit once I get my GC and we get on our feet.

I don't regret it but there are a lot of really great things about Canada that just don't exist in the U.S. But to be able to not work full-time and be home when my kids get off the school bus every day while living in a 2000 sqft house with half an acre for less than half what it cost me for a 2 bedroom apartment in Toronto... I can go on and on... I'm very happy to be here. Moving from Canada isn't like moving from other countries that don't have such a high standard of living, so it is different in that regard. For me it is about being able to have more while working less and being a happy family with my husband and children.

I would be staying in Canada if I could. Originally that was going to be the plan. But the international tuition for him to go to school in Canada is wayy expensive. So we decided it would be better for him to continue going to school where he is & me move there. I hope for us return to Canada at some point. The main thing is for him to finish school there, and once I can, for me to work. I do like it there from what I have seen from my visits...but I am definitely partial to Canada and where I am born and will miss it a lot I am sure.

Yup. I am big-time regretting moving from Canada. I was completely settled up there... I owned a condo in Toronto (which thankfully, I ended up just renting out instead of selling), I had a huge family and tonnes of friends.

I thought living in Florida would be great, because I already had some friends down here from when I was vacationing here with my parents.... but they were definitely not the quality friends I had back home. Just fairweather friends. I get paid HALF of what I made back home in my new job (which, other than the money, I love very much)... and overall, life down here is just not what I was hoping it would be. :(

Sorry to hear that, KT. Any chance you and your husband could move up there? Could he land a job there?

I miss Canada a great deal and jump at every chance I can to go back. Happily married, but if for some reason something happened...I would be back in a flash!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I regretted not leaving Canada sooner than I did. Never had a desire ever to go back, though just maybe once every year or two to visit is enough for me...

I'm just a wanderer in the desert winds...
