You should have only sent a copy of your marriage certificate with the I-130, it says in the NVC guide for the I-130 application:

Proof of Relationship Primary evidence - Copy of marriage certificate

Did you read the guides before you mailed your I-130 ?

It does NOT ask for an original or certified copy, originals and certified are only sent at the NVC stage

Just a little something to note. When i printed the cover sheet out for my Civil Documents after paying the IV bill, on the address it is marked for the Attn: CMR dept.

When i filled in the DS-260 at the end it said to send the civil documents off and said to mark them Attn CMR/DR (it was either DR/DM or something similar)

I had already sent them with the printed cover sheet just to CMR.

doesn't matter

I don't mean to hijack this thread but I have a question in regards to mailing the documents to NVC. I've completed my DS-260 form online and now it says I have to submit the necessary documents. I can't find the document cover sheet for it. I only have the AOS document cover sheet available to me. The only bar coded sheet that I can see is the confirmation page of the IV which has my information and NVC case number on it. Do I print this and include this in my documents when i mail it to them? It doesn't say anything on it about being a document cover sheet like the AOS.

It's in the payment portal where you paid the IV fee.

Translation is an embassy specific issue. Try asking in the embassy or your regional forum.

A long form birth certificate states the parents names and dob. A short form does not. If a long form is available, it should be the one used.

I believe it will as they do specifically ask for the long one with parents details on.

also i would like to add that this what i used to get my american passport and had no problem and also what i sent with my i-130 aslo this is what i found on the web n it says nothing bout birthdates of parents..

  • Long form - legal size or two page form with details of the person, their parents', place of birth, certification by the parents, signature and stamp of the issuing agency or department. Recent forms are in English and French.
  • Short form or card - provides name, birth date, place of birth, date of registration, date of issue, registration number, certificate number, signature of registrar general
  • The passport office tells everyone to get a long form because then there is no doubt that it will be accepted. Some states have short forms that comply with passport requirements, and therefore they are acceptable. Basically, as long as the birth certificate has your parents' names, it will be accepted.
  • LONG FORM birth certificate will show the name of the child and the names of both parents. If only one parent was declared, then it will show the child's name & the mother's name.

A SHORT FORM birth certificate will show ONLY the child's name.

For an adult (age 16 or over) a short form should be fine. However, for someone under the age of 16, parental consent is needed. There is no way to know who should be giving parental consent without a long form birth certificate showing parent(s) names.

I sent my original Birth Certificate along with I130. But now I am waiting for my case to complete and they are asking for my original birth certificate. So I spoke with the NVC representative and she told me that I have to write a letter saying that it is with the I130 package and send the letter by mail. So I did that and I am waiting now for my case to complete.
