Change of appointment in Lagos?

I have family members going as a group to their interview for visitors visas, all were scheduled for Monday (Oct 21). Suddenly (today, the 18th) there was an e-mail (very poorly written) that states that one of the applicants must re-pay the fee and re-register for the appointment or he will not be admitted. This sounds so bizaare to me, and also the e-mail was sent from an aol account. Is this a fraud attempt? Has anyone had this before? What should we do? Everyone was set to travel there as the appointment is on MONDAY!!

Help, what can we do?

Thanks!

The NVC will never send you a mail via aol, gmail or yahoo, if the mail is from NVC the domain will be xxxxx@state.gov. I see a red flag on fraud here. If you have ever received email from NVC, you can compare the addresses.

Also, to what bank were you asked to pay into? If you are in Nigeria, the embassy has only one GTbank account.

Forward the email to the embassy; it isn't legitimate.

It is quite funny though.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

For sure.

But begs the questions, how did they get your email, how did they know you're traveling, how did they know scheduling.

Inside job?

Most Nigerians go to the Cafe to print some of these documents. And majority solicit the help of the cafe operators who have their eyes out for information that could be used. Many Nigerians are not really security-conscious or just simply helpless.

I never received an email but I had fraudulent phone calls from people saying they were from the Nigerian embassy and saying I needed to pay. Both times it happened were right after my fiance had made copies or downloaded forms at a cafe. Sad but it happens.
