You do NOT need to notarize the affidavits.

I think the EAD combo card takes between 2 and 3 months to arrive, but I'm not sure how is that affected if you state that you have a trip on that date, and/or if you request an expedite. Also, I think people over this forum strongly recommend not leaving the US without the EAD combo card in your hand.

Affidavits that aren't notarised aren't affidavits, because by definition an affidavit is a sworn statement made in the presence of a designated official, such as a notary public. They would be more statements or personal declarations.

I respectfully disagree. From the instructions of the 130,

"Affidavits sworn to or affirmed by third parties having personal knowledge of the bona fides of the marital relationship. (Each affidavit must contain the full name and address, date and place of birth of the person making the affidavit, his or her relationship to the petitioner of beneficiary, if any, and complete information and details explaining how the person acquired his or her knowledge of your marriage);"

If the concept of affidavit for USCIS implied they are sworn by definition, they would not write "sworn" after affidavit. Then, it says "OR affirmed by". I'm not exactly sure what affirmed means, but it does not sound like notarized to me. Moreover, on a more practical note, given that they are already specifying obvious details to include (like name of the person making the affidavit), it would be reasonable that if they required the document to be notarized, they would simply state so. Lastly, the 864 is an affidavit of support, but I'm sure you did not notarize it.

All I say is only about what the USCIS wants people to do about that item of the 130. What an affidavit means outside this realm, I have no clue.
