So, now, at quarter past eleven the night before the interview...

Russ hasn't paid the fee for the interview. His interview is at nine. The bank doesn't open until nine.

I'm having seventeen panic attacks right now. What are we going to do?!

Is it possible that he could go on over to the embassy while you pay the fee? Surely he won't get called up to the window in that amount of time. Is the bank close by?

ATM machine, either one of your accounts (since you should be able to withdraw on your US acct from the UK)? If no debit card, take it off a credit card (cash advance) and then pay it back after the interview?

If it helps, when I was at interview time in Vancouver BC, my fiancée was able to be with me but not mandatory. Is there any way *you* can physically go get the fee while he sits and waits for his turn in queue? (My fiancé was taking my cell phone back to the car and they let him in after me by about 15 minutes.) As the USC you should have no issue getting into the embassy.

I suggest debit or credit card withdrawl and hopefully just pay any fees later. Good luck and hope you get some sleep before the big day.

Problem is we have to have it paid in before the interview...we don't need the chas, we need the receipt that shows we paid it. Aargh!

In theory this is true, but I paid one of my visa fees on the day INSIDE the embassy, they have the ability to accept payment. I guess they don't like doing it though. Of course, you would have to get past the rather draconian female 'payment slip' guard!

Best of luck anyway.

Oh I hate those last minute surprises! He sounds like my husband, but worse!! lol

I would check into western union, I heard they are open late in some locations.

Good luck!

This is what I was saying earlier; why not send him to queue for the interview while you go pay the fee and join him later? Why won't that work?

As a USC, you shouldn't have trouble getting inside. Even if you did, phone him and have him come down and retrieve the payment slip.

i agree with tracy ... have him go to the embassy and you go to the bank to pay it.

for people that don't know ... for the london embassy, you have to pay your visa fee at a bank and bring the processing slip with you to the interview as proof that you paid for your visa fee.

but definitely take care of this for him and then re-join him inside!

Ah, well that's making more sense then. It's a$$-backward to how it's done in Canada, where the payment for the visa is down the corridor from the interview area (in the consulate itself). CAPS paid ours while I was reviewing my paperwork with the woman pre-interview.

I think the best plan is to meet up at the embassy after you've paid it.

As I have said before, this isn't absolutely true, you can pay inside the embassy, I have done it and this was London in December 2005. However, it is perfectly possible to pay on the day before going inside as well, the bank is quite close.

Phone him? On entry you are told to switch your mobile phone off while inside the embassy...mind you, that doesn't seem to stop people.

I should point out, after thanking everyone for their sound advice, that we had no problems with this-as Barclay's (the bank) was open half an hour earlier (8:30) than the website had stated. We were able to get to the bank and pay the fee before walking over to the Embassy and getting a big, fat APPROVAL!
