My passport (in my maiden name) is set to expire this Feb 2014. And so I'm planning to renew it before submitting the photocopy to NVC.

My dilemma is, will it be ok to use my married name in the new passport or it will be better if I retain my maiden name..?

Because in our application, we used my maiden name... helpsmilie.gif

hi! if i were you ...better renew your passport now since your case is not yet done with the nvc...

even if your details as of now with the nvc is your maiden name..you can still have it change during submitting your civil documents with them..

you will be submitting your new passport with your married name, your marriage certificate to prove the change of your surname.

it's perfectly fine..but make sure in submitting your civil documents to nvc it should be in your married name already..

Thank you Domitila! :)

Does NVC have a change name request?

Or my name will automatically be updated once I send the civil docs?

You can send them the documents (passport or marriage certificate) showing your change of name to NVC Attn: DR.

http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3177.html

That's what I did and was accepted.

I agree with Domitila that you renew your passport now to avoid problems in filling up your ds260.

If you don't mind me asking, why did you use your maiden name when you filed the petition?

Thank you Rostel! :)

When did you do this? After you received your case number?

We applied using my maiden name because that time I haven't filed anything yet to change names.

I thought that I needed to use the name (maiden) which is registered in all my legal docs and id's.

And now I wonder if using the married name would've been ok..?

How bout you? :)

I noticed the error in my son's name when I paid the AOS fee.

It was already in the NVC then so we sent a copy of his passport and birth certificate to correct it because that's what the operator said when I called NVC.

Yes, I already have a case number when I sent the correction as I noticed it when we were billed.

You were already married then so using your husband's last name would have been ok.

Call NVC to be sure and to avoid delays too.

Thank you for the advices here.

I was able to contact NVC and though our case are not yet with them, they confirmed that the change of name is possible.

And so I renewed my passport already and will get it by next week. :D
