Please anyone know .. why when some people make chocolate chip cookies.. they come out fluffy.. and mine ALWAYS come out flat?

Use Crisco shortening instead of butter and use a wodden spoon for mixing, not metal... works for me every time.

A great marriage is not when the "perfect couple" comes together.

It is when an imperfect couple learns to enjoy their differences.

I'm planning on doing some x-mas baking for gifts. I'm thinking about getting some takeout cartons to put the goodies in, think it might be cute.

Here's a really easy recipe my mom always made, which for some reason is called Cookies Cut in Squares but aren't really cookies at all:

3/4 cup crunchy peanut butter

1 12oz package of chocolate chips

3 cups marshmellows

Melt together the peanut butter and chocolate chips. Remove from heat. Stir in marshmellows and put in a 8x8 pan. Once the chocolate sets, cut in squares.

I made a batch last week, and um..ate them all. oops!

Gift exchange

$30 and up

Every year we have this gift exchange game. All the parties put their gift in the morning under the tree, then a little bit before lunch, we start the game and have lunch at the same time.

1) the 1st person go and get a draw from the basket

2) the person called pick the next

3) If you don't like your gift you have the option to call out another person gift take it then go back under the tree for another one.

Rules : a gift can not exchange hands more than twice. so 2nd time around it's all your nobody can claim it.

It's fun

Oh, I'm also thinking about making some party mix to give away, to add something savory to the sweet stuff. We always called this Bits 'n Bites in my house, but my husband calls it Chex Mix:

1/2 cup oil or butter

1 tbsp garlic salt

2 tbsp worcestershire sauce

1/2 tsp celery salt

1/2 box Shreddies (since moving to the US I haven't been able to find a great sub for this, I used some whole wheat Chex last time)

1/2 box Cheerios

1/4-1/2 bag pretzel sticks

Peanuts/Nuts to taste (optional)

Bake uncovered at 350 for about one hour. Stir often (every 10-15 minutes). Make sure you stir it really well, or else it all sort of sticks/burns on the bottom.

My Mom made these every year at Christmas. I do too in memory of her. :star: (Plus it's super easy and really good.)

Graham Coconut Chip Bars

1 1/3 cups graham cracker crumbs

1 1/3 cups unsweetened medium flake coconut

1 package (6 oz) chocolate chips

1 can sweetenend condensed milk

dash salt

1/4 cup butter or margarine, melted

1 teaspoon vanilla

Preheat oven to 350F.

Grease an 8x8 square pan.

Mix all the ingredients together and put mixture into pan.

Bake for 25 minutes. Once cooled, cut into squares. Yields ~30 pieces (very rich, I always give out small amounts).

They can be eaten warm but are so much better when cold. :)

In the oven as we speak. Or I speak. Or type... Or yeah, you get the idea. :D

I'm also going to try the Friendly Spiders one, Marilyn.

And the peanut butter temptations one I found on allrecipes.com. Their cookie countdown for X-mas had some nice recipes!

OK, a few observations/questions from the n00b kitchen princess here.

The Graham coconut chip bars... they seem really uh mushy but it was still a bit warm. Is it supposed to "set" when it cools down some more?

And a tip for the Friendly Spiders: I spent about an hour making the little balls :P It's really messy but wetting your hands with hot water kinda helped. I sifted some powdered sugar on top after setting the balls on a plate. Lookin' good! Haven't tasted anything yet though, so who knows.

Everyone might end up with tummy cramps on Sunday.:P

I usually make Oatmeal/Butterscotch Chip cookies. I'm lazy, and they're easy. lol

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.
