I could kick myself... DS forms!

So long story short, amidst an annoying and distracting situation while trying to sort out my forms for Packet 3, I ended up filing for a DS-160 instead of the DS-156. I have also just finished filling in and printing out the DS-156.

Since I can't actually speak to anyone at the London embassy over the weekend due to their phonelines not being open, does anyone know if this is going to mess up my whole K1 process?

Thanks! :S

I don't really know anything about the DS 160. Is it similar to the 156 where you just fill it online and then mail it, or is it submitted directly once completed?

I can't imagine it will cause any problems, but I'm only guessing.

Its weird. It says its not for K applicants yet it had an option for it and talks about the I-129F . It possesses a lot of identical questions as the 156 but there were a lot more security questions. Once completed it just offers you to print the confirmation and it gets electronically submitted. I'd call NVC or DOS but they aren't open on weekends :(

Nobody? Geez this is gonna be gnawing away at me... :(

The people in this K1 forum are not all familiar with London or the process after NOA2. If you asked in the UK forum you would get better answers for where you are now.

This post in the UK forum lists the forms. http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/350185-london-2012-k1s-from-noa2-to-interview-thread/?p=5137390

You got a letter telling you where your K1 instructions were found, so how you came up with an I-160 is a mystery. That is for students, tourists, nannies, preachers, etc. So carry on with getting the correct forms and procedures done and it will sort itself out.

Fill out a 156 form and print it. That doesn't get electronically submitted.

On the interview appointment confirmation page, make sure it says you are interviewing for a K visa, and not a tourist or other non-immigrant visa.

You should be good if you do both of those. the 160 shouldl be disregarded.

Thanks for your posts Nich-Nick and Leon&Mylen.

It was literally down to clicking the wrong link on the list of forms on the DOS website and following the whole form through to the end. That's what I get for trying to work on my case with 3 screaming hellion children around me and the computer with the printer.

.

No don't do the above quoted part for London. London will assign your interview by sending a letter when you have 3 things in to them.

1. Four application forms (some in duplicate)

2. Medical results

3. DS-2001 Readiness for Interview form

You do not pick your own appointment or get a confirmation page. It happens after you follow their London procedure, not DOS. Each consulate has their own local way to do it.

I realize you don't pick your own appointment. And by confirmation page, I was referring to the letter or any other form of confirmation you guys get. I just didn't know if you get an email too, or whatnot, so I called it a confirmation to cover it all, whatever it is.

My point was simply that the OP needs to make sure the interview is for a K visa and not a tourist visa (which is what the 160 is usually used for).

I found this thread which sounds similar to what you have done: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/447097-confuse-ds-160-and-ds-156/

I realise it's a different country and will be different procedures, but if I were you I'd double check with someone on Monday that it won't affect you.

Yeah, I've got that down. I'm just waiting on my birth certificate, police record check and my fiancées I-134 paperworks to get here then I can send off those forms.

I will still be calling NVC to clarify with them too on Monday.
